Title: Analyzing the Adverse Effects of Privatization in the Absence of Effective Regulation Author: Rita Moncre (PhD) Abstract: ... Improved infrastructure and utility delivery, increased levels of domestic and international investment, and an enlarged and vibrant private sector are urgently needed in African nations. Privatization can be used to accomplish everything mentioned above. Yet, due to sluggish and reluctance on the part of African states to privatize, a sizable amount of industrial/manufacturing and the majority of infrastructure still belong to the state Nellis (2005). Leftist intellectuals have, however, denounced the privatization of once-state-owned services as a sell-out of public goods and as the ultimate triumph of market capitalism, which has a propensity to leave the poor even more destitute and the rich much richer. Since the majority of developing countries are working to end poverty, privatization may be the answer for some. The study examines whether privatization would make poverty levels worse or worse. This essay focuses on nations in Africa. The outcomes of privatization in Africa are uneven, and it has been noted that none of the African nations have totally benefited from it. This essay examines the issue of whether privatization harms the most vulnerable members of society and uses the examples of privatization in Guinea and Senegal to do so. Keywords: Privatization, Regulation. Show More |

Title: Corporate Support for the Merangasse Search for Sustainable Developments Theoretical Imperatives Author: Herex H. Juima Abstract: ... The papers of this SI are grouped into three clusters: a. Sustainability Science, b. Economic Problems and c. Corporate Contributions to Sustainable Development. Burger and Christen discuss in their paper “Towards a Capability Approach of Sustainability”, the usefulness of the ‘capability approach’ for sustainability science. To do this, the author identified six adequacy conditions (future orientation, justice, normative power, universalism, limitedness and fragility of ecosystems and institutional actions) for the applicability of the concept of sustainability. These conditions are used to develop a categorical framework consisting of six categories for conceptions of sustainability. The author documents that the ‘capability approach’ is a promising candidate for fulfilling the demands of this framework. Show More |

Title: South Korean Community Culturenomics as a Logic Tool in Urban Regeneration Author: Ging Liu Tui (Ph.D) Abstract: ... In South Korea, ‘Culturenomics’ is utilized as a logic tool in urban regeneration plan. Lagged cities highlight their cultural capital to generate economic effects. This plan can make the lagged city have creative and cultural image. Therefore, it can be meaningful and important to exploring concrete case of the urban regeneration in South Korea. Mullae Creation Community can be the typical example of the plan. Artists in the community metamorphosed this lagged place into creative and artistic place to seek coexistence with residents and steel industry workers. In this way, Mullae creative community has been formed naturally and voluntarily without external actors like governmental organizations. However, as the governmental actors started to support this creative community by providing subsidies therefore, the question of sustainability in the community has been raised. Accordingly, this research raises the need for sustainable development of Mullae creation community. Keywords: Mullae creation community, sustainable development, artists, Seoul municipal government. Title: Social, Economic, and Sustainable Development Effects of Javas Agro-Forest Cultivation Author: Trino Utikso Abstract: ... This study aims to identify the practice of enrichment planting which is developed in agroforestry management and to devise the schemes to increase more prospective enrichment planting. The research was conducted in GunungKidul, Java, Indonesia which includes three zones namely the BaturAgung (Nglanggeran Village), LedokWonosari (Gari Village) and GunungSeribu (Jetis Village). Data sampling method is done by purposive random sampling way. In each village it is selected 30 units of agroforestry land consisting of 10 initial agroforestries, 10 intermediate agroforestries and 10 advanced agroforestries. Analysis includes site conditions, microclimate, evolving patterns of agroforestry and traditional silvicultural practices. The result shows that the practice of enrichment planting traditionally is still limited to the consideration of the tree numbers increase in agroforestry systems. Furthermore enrichment planting has not been followed by intensive silvicultural actions. Based on these considerations it is necessary to make innovation to increase the agroforestry productivity (BaturAgung Zone) with intensive silviculture that synergizes enrichment planting with pruning, commercial thinning and tebangbutuhthrough the schemes: 1) Agroforestry for food, 2) Agroforestry transition from food-based initial agroforestry to advanced agroforestry and 3) Acceleration of initial agroforestry to advanced agroforestry. As for LedokWonosari and GunungSeribu Zone through the schemes: 1) Acceleration of initial agroforestry to full teak advanced agroforestry and 2) The transition from initial to advanced agroforestry with enrichment. With the scheme of this traditional silviculture technology can enhance the role of agroforestry as a last resort of forest management outside the forest. Title: Public Service Delivery and The Politics of Sycophancy in Nigeria Author: Anietie E. Ekang, PhD Abstract: ... This work examined how sycophancy affected public service delivery in the Nigerias public service. Sycophancy takes place in both military and civilian regimes in Nigeria. The main reason for sycophancy is to curry the favour of the government in power in terms of appointments, contracts award and allocation of values in the political system. Sycophants are groups of citizens that always come in to praise and eulogize every government in power though with dubious intentions of benefiting from the government in power. Sycophancy has often made our political leaders to believe that they are doing well whereas they are not. This has often given the political leaders a false sense of their performance in office. Sycophancy has often given our political office holders intoxicating effects of performance occasioned by excessive praise singing. This work believes that factors that influence sycophancy in Nigeria includes, political culture and orientation, colonial virus, system of rewards and sharing of resources/positions, defense mechanism, unpopular leadership, culture of betrayal and unfulfilled promises. Sycophancy continued to thrive in Nigeria because sycophants are usually rewarded by the government in power because of the role they play in laundering the image of the government in power whether they perform well or not. The study concluded that sycophancy has negatively affected the delivery of public service in Nigeria because the sycophants will always tell the government in power that they are performing well even in the obvious case of poor or non-performance. It was recommended, among others that, appointments into public offices should be based on merit, competence and capability. Sycophancy should be criminalized in the country, and that conferment of chieftaincy titles, honourary degrees and other awards to political officer holders while still in office should be prohibited. Title: ELECTORATE PARTICIPATION IN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN NIGERIA 2002-2023 Author: Abraham Owugbosia Stewart, PhD. & Graham Nsiegbe, PhD Abstract: ... This paper is anchored on Electorate participation in presidential elections in Nigeria: 2002-2023. Voter’s turnout simply means the percentage or number of persons of voting age population for the percentage of registered voters, who actually participated to vote in an election. Elections are the means by which the people choose and exercise some degree of control over their representatives. There are two main types of elections. These are direct and indirect election. The frequent use of electorate participation in literature to explain the reason why people vote tends to question the feasibility of the survival of democratic process in Nigeria. It also basically raises a credible question to the organization and structure of the electoral institutions in this case (INEC) Independent National Electoral Commission. The main objective of this study is to find an explanation to the socio-dynamics of electorate participation in Nigeria by using figures of voters in the Nigerian presidential election covering the period under review. This paper relied on secondary data and adopted Rational Choice theory as it theoretical framework. The finding is that electorates vote on the ground of patrimonial and primordial attachment. The study concluded that there exist a sharp difference between the number of registered voters and votes cast in Nigerian presidential elections covering the years under review. It recommendations among other include that voters education campaign should be intensified to enhance electorate participation in Nigerian elections Keywords: Electorate, participation Election: Show More |

Title: NIGERIAS FOREIGN POLICY AND TERRORISM FROM ROOT CAUSES TO COUNTERTERRORISM STRATEGIES AND DOMESTIC IMPACTS Author: George Onwubiko Ijioma & Fidelis Allen Abstract: ... In this article, we explored the effects of the activities of Boko Haram on Nigeria’s foreign policy and the implications for diplomatic relations with other countries of the world. The socioeconomic impact of terrorism, key challenges in the fight against terrorism, as well as the success of Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts between 2007 and 2023, were examined. The results show that Nigeria has suffered significant casualties from attacks, against residents across communities. What is clear, so far, is that Nigeria’s image has been significantly tarnished. This alone is crippling the tourism sector, disrupting trade, and leading to a decline in foreign investment. The destabilization of Nigerias global image is beyond measure. This study highlights the importance of addressing the root causes of violent extremism and the need for a more comprehensive counterterrorism strategy.
