Title: Comparing School-Leavers and College Graduates on Job Satisfaction Author: Temaru Zanan & Ahmad Jaira Abstract: ... The purpose of this study is to address the gaps in the literature and compare the job satisfaction between school leavers and college graduates. Specifically, the proposed study sought to expand the existing, yet limited research exploring job satisfaction between school-leavers and college graduates. In this study, the comparison includes these factors: the job itself (work conditions, employment benefits, job challenge, job security, and educational benefit), pay, opportunities for promotion, supervisor, and coworkers (Wei & Kopischke, 2001). This study used MSQ as a data gathering tool. The questionnaires were administered to 89 male respondents, 55 are school-leavers and 34 are graduates, and 121 female respondents, 60 are school-leavers and 61 are graduates. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was employed as a tool to conduct independent t-test, and descriptive statistical analysis. The results showed insignificant differences of job satisfaction between the variables. Several recommendations for future studies were also listed. Title: Kisumu East Sub-Countys Seventh-day Adventist Adherents Faith and Modern Christian Music Author: Stella Rima Abstract: ... One of the major concerns that Christian churches in Africa face today is the issue of church music and worship styles. The general purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Contemporary Christian Music on the faith of the adherents of SDA Church members in Kisumu East Sub-county. The objectives of this study were: Establish the standard of the SDA criteria of good Church music, Identify the difference between music of the SDA church and CCM that are incorporated in the SDA churches in Kisumu East Sub-county, Examine the effects of CCM on the faith of the adherents of SDA Church members in Kisumu East Sub-county and Determine the response given by church members on the use of CCM in SDA churches in Kisumu East Sub-county. The theoretical framework was anchored on secularization theory which tries to explain postmodernism. This theory puts emphasis on a con-junction of cultural conditions, structural changes, and specific historical events. Descriptive research design was adopted for this study. The study population was 2132 adherents comprising of both adults and the young people in Kisumu East in Kisumu County. Proportional sampling was used. A sample of 322 is recommended by Morgan and Krejcie for the total population of 2132.This study utilized purposive sampling to select 8 Choir Leaders and 1 Pastor due to their roles. The sample therefore comprised a total of 78 key informants. Interviews, group discussion and questionnaires were used to collect data from the sampled respondents. The test-retest approach was used to determine the reliability of the research instruments and validity of the instruments was ascertained by presenting the questionnaires and interview guide to experts who are authorities in the study area for scrutiny and advice on the instruments. Qualitative thematic analysis was the main method adopted in analyzing data. The researcher found out that despite the original music that congregations sing with use of hymnal books the current practice in worship is contrary. The lives of those who accept this responsibility must be as distinctive as their message. This study concluded that there is need for total commitment by each church member to the ideals and objectives of the Church. Such commitment will affect every department of church life and will certainly influence the music used by the Church in fulfillment of its God-given commission. Therefore, the study recommended that Efforts should be made by the local church leaders and conference leaders to train more choir leaders taking them to church seminars to learn more and in turn teach their members. Title: Transgender Option: A Critique Author: Kingsley Nsirim (Ph.D) & Emmanuel Mgbomo (Ph.D) Abstract: ... This study critically investigates transgender option using the qualitative descriptive research methodology. The study begins by examining the key concepts that underlie transgender option. Findings from the study reveal that transgender people are a case as they do not identify with the national gender identity they are assigned at birth. They present a different societal image and they prefer or feel compelled to carry themselves in ways that contradict social expectations of their original designated gender roles, and this has raised serious concerns for many scientists, medical practitioners, ethicists and a lot of others as they try to determine whether such affectation is acceptable or not. The study however, concludes that genetic fitness should be encouraged instead of genetic fabrication. In fact, the study recommends that instead of encouraging habits that mar natural and immutable sexual traits, we should advocate policies that protect the identity and dignity of the human person, and also celebrate the dignity of every human and offer compassionate membership and care for individuals struggling with issues of sexual identity or rejecting the gift of femaleness or maleness they were given at birth. Title: Comparing International Studies to Determine How Nationality Affects School Students Attitudes About Science Author: Siffat Hida (Ph.D), Junat Hajun (Ph.D) & Yalat Horeen Abstract: ... This research examines the effects of nationality on attitudes of students to study science and mathematics. The main aim is to identify attitude variations of the students living in different geographical areas of the world with particular focus on students from developing and developed countries. It compares data from ‘Trends in International Mathematics and Science Studies’ (TIMSS) 1996, 1999, 2003, 2007, ‘Relevance of Science Education’ (ROSE) 2004, ‘Programme for International Students Assessment’ (PISA) 2003, 2006, ‘Science and Scientists’ (SAS) 2002. Findings make it clear that students are positive internationally but students in developing countries are more positive than the students in rich and developed countries in science, mathematics, biology and physics with chemistry as an exception. Overall East Asian students are lowest in their attitude scores in integrated science followed by Australia, North America and Western Europe while South East Asian and African Students are on other end followed by North Asia, and Middle East. It is also observed that the students‟ interest in science subjects is increasing with the years. For mathematics again the students of East Asia are lowest in their average scores in all international studies followed by West Europe, Australia and East Europe. On the other end are the nations like Africa, South East Asia, and Middle East. It was suggested that instead of only measuring level and dimension of attitudes, large-scale projects must look for the factors behind the tremendous variance that exists among countries, as well as how and when these attitudes change. Title: Family Care Strategies and Well-Being of The Elderly Persons in Rivers State Author: FabianMartins Obungwah & Onyejiuwa Benjamin (PhD.) Abstract: ... This study investigates family care strategies and well-being of the elderly persons in Rivers State. The study employed the correlational research design. Three research questions and three null hypotheses guided the study. Population of the study comprised all the elderly persons in Rivers State, totaling 2,400. Multi-stage sampling process and stratified random sampling technique was used through census sample size technique to select 325 elderly persons in Rivers State for the study. The research instruments for data collection was titled; ‘’Family Care Strategies Scale’’ (FCSS), and ‘’Well-being of the Elderly Persons Scale’’ (WBEPS), which was validated and tested for reliability using Cronbach alpha reliability method that yielded the reliability indices of; Independent Living Care Strategy α=0.76, Hospice Care Strategy α=0.77, Palliative Care Strategy α=0.80, and wellbeing of the elderly persons α=0.87 respectively. The researcher personally administered copies of the questionnaire to the respondents with the help of two research assistants. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to answer the research questions and tested the null hypotheses at a 0.05 significant level, using SPSS. The result revealed that; family care strategies of (independent living, hospice, and palliative) does significantly relates to the well-being of the elderly persons in Rivers State. Based on the finding, the researcher recommends amongst others that; Family care strategies in other for them to improve their well-being. It is believed that working on the identified family care strategies, will help improve the well-being of the elderly persons. Title: Infrastructural Development and Quality Education in Public Senior Secondary Schools in Rivers State Author: Goodhope Chinenye Igwe & Ominini Brother Asako Walson Abstract: ... This study investigates infrastructural development and quality of education in public senior schools in Rivers State. Three research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted the correlation survey research design. The population of the study was all 289 principals of public senior secondary schools in Rivers State. The sample was 173 principals which was 60% of the total population. A stratified random sampling technique was used to derive the sample. Two instruments are used for data collection namely: Infrastructural Development Questionnaire (IDQ) and Quality Education Questionnaire (QEQ). Face and content validated was done by three experts in the department Guidance and Counseling, and Educational Management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt. The reliability of the instruments determined using the Cronbach Alpha were .87 and .68 for IDQ and QEQ respectively. Data were collected by the researcher and two (2) trained research assistants. Pearson Product Correlation Coefficient (PPMC) was used to answer the research questions, while Multiple regressions and associated t-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of probability. The findings showed that available classrooms, staff offices, and libraries had strong positive correlations with quality education in senior secondary schools in Rivers State. The results of the hypotheses revealed that available classrooms, staff offices, and school libraries significantly related with and predicted quality education in public senior secondary in Rivers State. They accounted for 3%, 6%, and 1.1% respectively of the total variance in quality education in public senior secondary schools in Rivers State. On account of these findings, it was recommended that since infrastructural development is necessary for quality education in public senior secondary schools in Rivers State, increase in budgetary allocation and maintenance culture in necessary for the improvement and sustainability of infrastructural to enhance quality education.
