Title: Examining the Negative impact of Privatization without Effective Regulation Author: Sucre Mataba Abstract: ... Improved infrastructure and utility delivery, increased levels of domestic and international investment, and an enlarged and vibrant private sector are urgently needed in African nations. Privatization can be used to accomplish everything mentioned above. Yet, due to sluggish and reluctance on the part of African states to privatize, a sizable amount of industrial/manufacturing and the majority of infrastructure still belong to the state Nellis (2005). Leftist intellectuals have, however, denounced the privatization of once-state-owned services as a sell-out of public goods and as the ultimate triumph of market capitalism, which has a propensity to leave the poor even more destitute and the rich much richer. Since the majority of developing countries are working to end poverty, privatization may be the answer for some. The study examines whether privatization would make poverty levels worse or worse. This essay focuses on nations in Africa. The outcomes of privatization in Africa are uneven, and it has been noted that none of the African nations have totally benefited from it. This essay examines the issue of whether privatization harms the most vulnerable members of society and uses the examples of privatization in Guinea and Senegal to do so. Keywords: Privatization, Regulation. Show More |

Deletion is a syntactic rule where a piece of syntactic structure is removed, under specified conditions. Relative clause deletion is a syntactic rule which elides relative clause, under specified conditions. This paper examines relative clause in Igbo with special focus on relative clause deletion. The findings of this paper reveal that relative clause deletion in Igbo is possible in coordinate, comparative, reconstruction structures and sloppy reading expressions when the structures meet the identical and parallelism conditions. This paper further revealed that other modifiers such as adnominal adjective and expressions with inverse linking interpretations can be deleted in the same way in which relative clauses are deleted in Igbo. Finally, this paper established the structure of relative clause in Igbo using a modified version of the head raising analysis by Kayne (1994:90) and Collins (2015:67). Keywords: Clause, Igbo. Title: Is Modern Science Rational? Author: Etorobong Godwin Akpan Abstract: ... This study was conducted to demonstrate whether modern science as represented by microphysics satisfies the criteria of rationality set for sciences; and if it does not, then whether the programmes that berate metaphysics as a system of truth are still tenable. The research became necessary in the face of a dangerous onslaught against philosophy, since the beginning of the twentieth century till date, by the so-called pro-science academics. The method adopted for the study was content analysis. On the basis of the paradigm of rationality of science, which is given in the paper as the provision of explanatory and predictive theories, it has been demonstrated that modern science fails in satisfying the criteria of rationality because of its overemphasis on predictive theories over and above explanatory theories. Title: Impact of Agro-Forest Cultivation Socio-Economic Sustainable Development in Java Author: Priyono Suryanto Abstract: ... This study aims to identify the practice of enrichment planting which is developed in agroforestry management and to devise the schemes to increase more prospective enrichment planting. The research was conducted in GunungKidul, Java, Indonesia which includes three zones namely the BaturAgung (Nglanggeran Village), LedokWonosari (Gari Village) and GunungSeribu (Jetis Village). Data sampling method is done by purposive random sampling way. In each village it is selected 30 units of agroforestry land consisting of 10 initial agroforestries, 10 intermediate agroforestries and 10 advanced agroforestries. Analysis includes site conditions, microclimate, evolving patterns of agroforestry and traditional silvicultural practices. The result shows that the practice of enrichment planting traditionally is still limited to the consideration of the tree numbers increase in agroforestry systems. Furthermore enrichment planting has not been followed by intensive silvicultural actions. Based on these considerations it is necessary to make innovation to increase the agroforestry productivity (BaturAgung Zone) with intensive silviculture that synergizes enrichment planting with pruning, commercial thinning and tebangbutuhthrough the schemes: 1) Agroforestry for food, 2) Agroforestry transition from food-based initial agroforestry to advanced agroforestry and 3) Acceleration of initial agroforestry to advanced agroforestry. As for LedokWonosari and GunungSeribu Zone through the schemes: 1) Acceleration of initial agroforestry to full teak advanced agroforestry and 2) The transition from initial to advanced agroforestry with enrichment. With the scheme of this traditional silviculture technology can enhance the role of agroforestry as a last resort of forest management outside the forest. Title: Verb Tone Classes in Ikwerre Author: Glory Worukwo & Roseline Ihuoma C. Alerechi Abstract: ... Considering the tonal variation existing among the verbs in the various dialects of Ikwerre, this paper identifies the verb tone classes in the language based on the infinitive form of the verb. The paper adopts an eclectic approach in the analysis of verb tone classes in the language. It is observed here that Ikwerre verbs manifest different tone patterns in the infinitive. Four such patterns have been identified in the language, and accordingly Ikwerre verbs are arranged into four tone classes depending on the tone of the verb root in the infinitive: Rising Tone Verbs, Falling Tone Verbs, High Tone Verbs, and Low Tone Verbs. The paper further observes that no one dialect has four tone classes. The maximum number of tone classes in any given dialect is three, while the minimum is two. Finally, verbs from each tone class are used in different constructions: imperative, the simple aspect, the past aspect, the progressive aspect, and the perfect aspect with the aim of finding out how verbs from the same tone class behave in a particular construction.
