The objective of this research was to study strategy and mechanism for driving to success in research of Khon Kaen University, to be effective research university through 3 phases of Policy Research. For research findings, 3 aspects of strategies and mechanisms were found: the product, research environment, and recognition in research. Title: Attitudes of SMKA Maahad Hamidiah Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia towards Learning Arabic as a Second Language Author: Quan Famuth Nabri (Ph.D) & Gahmed Yamat Abstract: ... The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the attitude of students studying Arabic language as a second language and their achievement in the Lower Secondary Examination (PMR). The research also investigated which component of attitude; cognitive, affective and behaviour, gives most impact on achievement in PMR examination. The study was conducted in SMKA Maahad Hamidiah Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia. The instrument used was a questionnaire with 34 items. It was distributed to 132 Form Four students. The study employed descriptive and inferential statistics in the data analysis. The study revealed that the cognitive and affective components of attitude were found to be significantly correlated with achievement. However, the result also showed that there was no relation between the behaviour component and achievement. In addition, the cognitive component of attitude was found to contribute significantly to achievement in Arabic. Thus, the finding of this study suggests that attitude is crucial in determining achievement in Arabic language. Therefore, teachers should encourage positive attitude towards learning Arabic among students in order to improve their achievement in the subject. Title: Pastoral Nomads and Host Communities’ Conflicts and the Underdevelopment of Education in Host Communities in Enugu State of Nigeria Author: Daminabo, Dagogo A. F. (Ph.D) & Ezeala, J. I. (Ph.D) Abstract: ... The study examines the impact of pastoral nomads and host communities’ conflicts and the environmental adult education strategies for curbing the crises towards environmental sustainability and educational development in Enugu State. Two research questions and assumptions were used for the study; and it is survey research design with a population of 11,553 pastoral nomads and 24,710 host communities’ members in four Local Government Areas. The sampling technique used was multi-stage. A sample size of 588 pastoral nomads and 1,226 host communities’ members representing 5% of the population was used. A structured questionnaire, with a coefficient reliability index of 0.77 was used for the study. The data were analysed using mean, standard deviation and grand mean to provide answers to the research questions and the stated assumptions. Staff and students displacement in their communities, increase in rate of crime, wanton destruction of lives and properties, pitiable standard of living and food scarcity were the effects of pastoral nomads and host community conflicts. The study recommended amongst others that regular environmental sensitization meetings should be adopted; nomadic schools and settlements should be resuscitated with grazing lands across the country. Title: Analyzing the difference between Bangla and English Monophthongs Author: Unal Ishiyi Abstract: ... Linguistics is the scientific study of a language, more precisely human language because it is the mankind who only uses language meaningfully. Linguistics has different fields. Phonetics is one of the fields where speech sound is analysed generally along with the sound production, transmission and reception. Again, phonology is the field where different sound systems of a language are analysed through scientific method. This paper deals with the phonology field where two languages, English and Bangla, are discussed. Every language has its own phonemes where each of them carries unique characteristics and these make them different from one another. Contrastive phonology is the field where different phonemes of a language are put side by side and studies different features of each phoneme. These are again analysed with phonemes of other language. Moreover, this is done to compare and contrast the sound systems, especially the pure vowels of two or more languages. Also, it has detailed scientific explanations of the reasons that people find it easier to learn Bangla Pure Vowel than that of English Pure Vowel. Finally, this paper is written to explore the fact that English phonemics is easier than Bangla phonemics (concerned with pure vowels). Title: Satisfactory Perceptions of Secondary School Teachers towards their Jobs Author: Muhammed Fasif (Ph.D), Rasheed Musari (Ph.D) & Uquar Dasil (Ph.D) Abstract: ... Job satisfaction is the key aspect of human nature. It is assumed that teachers show less satisfaction than any other organization in developing countries like Pakistan. This study compares the level of job satisfaction between male and female secondary school teachers. Six facets of job satisfaction were developed to compare gender, age, teaching experience, and location of the school with teachers’ job satisfaction. The population comprises all public sector secondary school teachers working in district Lahore, Pakistan. Three hundred and twenty two secondary school teachers were randomly selected from sixty public sector secondary schools. Data were collected personally. Job Satisfaction Scale for Teachers (JSST) was used for this purpose. One way ANOVA and t-test were applied. The results are interpreted in the context of Pakistan. Findings of the study suggested that female teachers were more satisfied with work and supervision aspects of job as compared with male teachers. No significant difference was found in the job satisfaction between science & arts and urban & rural school teachers. Age and work experience did not explore the job satisfaction difference in teachers. Further studied may be conducted to explore the impact of job satisfaction on students achievement. Language proficiency is neurologically and psychologically affiliated with sociological ingredients of human life. Both the process of acquisition and competence, as well as, performance is integrally intertwined within combination of human lingual production. In this paper, discussion has been laid out which is methodologically pivotal in ESL classroom in an Asian context. It has been globally accepted that an effective approach towards L2 learning or acquisition should be linguistically known and pedagogically interwoven by socio linguistic elements. A pragmatic implementation of socio learning approach can eventually contribute to a better achievement of efficiency level of neural factors that are absolutely scientifically, as well as, biologically decided. So in this paper an initiative has been launched to incorporate a relationship between neurological foundation and socio issue that can provide a teacher with authentic materials of teaching directed with the ideas of how to give feedback, motivation and reduce the stress level of the learners. It is universally true that L1 interruption that leads to fossilization of innate lingual approach of learner is logically proven to arise a high level stress in learners mind. In the arena of language teaching, discourse analysis provides both the teachers and learners with adequate and practical knowledge, as well as, makes learners linguistically efficient. In this paper achievement of language competence is highlighted over the efficiency of communicative competence. We aim at focusing on majoring learner’s level of competence in using language by showing command over four skills of target language. From the perspective of linguistic competence only achieving the communicative competence should not be the goal of SLA classroom. In this research paper it is depicted how the teachers adopt the techniques of discourse analysis to propel the students’ motivation in using the target language as a conceptual whole. This paper confidently argues in favor of teaching language as a linguistic phenomenon which is the primal proof of communicative competence. Functional and notional usage of target language can guarantee a rate of success that is manageable at an optimum better to say minimum level. As language is absolutely a social and psychological phenomenon, so the ultimate reach of learning a language should be authentically justified from the point of view of gaining soul command over structural, as well as, conceptual meaning of the target language. Title: Minimum Standards Adherence and Teaching Effectiveness in Public Early Childhood Education Centres in Rivers East Senatorial District in Rivers State Author: Benebo-Solomon Wilhelmina (Ph.D) & Ideriah, Ibiene Abiye Abstract: ... This study investigates the relationship between minimum standards and teaching effectiveness in public early childhood education centres in Rivers East Senatorial District of Rivers State. This study adopted the correlational research design. The population for the study is 465 caregivers from 205 public owned ECCDE centres in Rivers East Senatorial District. A total of 297 caregivers participated in the study. Two validated instruments titled “Early Childcare Center Minimum Standard Questionnaire (ECCMSQ)” and “Caregivers Teaching Effectiveness Questionnaire (CTEQ)” were used for the study. The reliability of the instruments was established using test re-test method to obtain reliability coefficients of 0.76 and 0.81 for CTEQ and ECCMSQ respectively. The study was anchored on the Montessori Theory (1897) and Vygotsky’s Socio-Cultural Theory (1978). This study was guided by four research questions and four hypotheses. The research questions and hypotheses were answered and tested using simple linear regression at 0.05 level of significance. Findings from the study established significant, strong and positive relationship between physical environment, psycho social care, water/sanitation, heath/nutrition and teaching effectiveness in public early childhood centres in Rivers East Senatorial District. Title: Emotional Trauma and Mental Health among Internally Displaced Persons in Bayelsa State Author: Konye Nwachukwu (PhD) Abstract: ... This study investigates the relationship between emotional trauma and mental health among internally displaced persons in Bayelsa State Nigeria. A total of two research question and two null hypotheses guided the study, the study adopted correlational research design. A sample of 120 internally displaced persons, mainly adults were randomly selected from the major IDPS camp in Bayelsa State. A self-designed instrument Titled: Emotional Trauma and Mental Health Questionnaire (ETMHQ) was used for data collection. The instrument was dully validated by expert from the department, which the internal consistency was determined using Cronbach alpha statistics. it gave a value of 0.873 which was considered adequate and highly reliable for the study, the analysis of the research questions were carried out using mean and standard deviation while person product moment correlation co-efficient was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 alpha level the findings of the study revealed a significant relationship between emotional trauma and mental health among internally displaced persons in Bayelsa State. It was however recommended that internally displaced persons should be provided with adequate health and social services to enhance their living standard.
