Title: Examining the Consequences of De-hubbing for Airports and Tourism Author: Peter Cohl Abstract: ... The size of airports depends on passenger traffic to and from that city as well as the number of passengers connecting from one flight to another flight. When hub airports lose a significant amount of connecting flights (‘de-hubbing’), their growth is negatively affected and in many cases does not reach previous levels. This has serious implications for the airport operator as well as the tourism industry, which may lose incoming visitors from markets no longer connected to the airport. The case of de-hubbing of Budapest airport of February 2012 shows that under certain circumstances, very good traffic recovery rates can be achieved. Important drivers for the recovery rate are the type of airline taking over lost routes, the demand for inbound tourism and capacity offered on selected markets, and the dominance of a certain type of airline (alliance/low cost). This paper extends the research done by Redondi et al. (2012), but also has relevance for airport and tourism managers faced with airline bankruptcy and policy makers. Title: Attitude of Female Bankers towards Exclusive Breastfeeding in Port Harcourt Metropolis, Rivers State Author: Samuel Gentle K. (Ph.D.) & Hannah Ekeanyanmu Abstract: ... Banking work is taxing and so deprives some workers like bankers from seeing breastfeeding as a very important venture. This study examined the attitude of female bankers towards exclusive breastfeeding in Port Harcourt metropolis, Rivers State. A research question and three (3) hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A cross-sectional descriptive survey was adopted as the study design with total of 315 female bankers selected as sample. Multi-stage sampling procedure was adopted. Simple random sampling technique was used to select respondents for the study. Disproportionate sampling technique was used to select participants. Structured questionnaire was used to collect date for the study, of which 300 questionnaires were retrieved and used for analysis. The data collected was analyzed using SPSS (version 20) descriptive statistics and was used to analyze socio-demographic characteristics of the respondents, while Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used to answer research questions and test the null hypotheses at .05 significant alpha. The result on attitude showed that the grand mean = 2.96±0.71 is greater than the criterion mean = 2.5 indicating that the respondents had positive attitude towards exclusive breastfeeding. It was concluded that the attitude of female bankers in Port Harcourt metropolis was highly positive. Recommendations such as intensifying campaigns were made on how to better and enhance their attitude towards exclusive breastfeeding and encouraging women to visit health facilities during antenatal period. Title: Effects of the Chieftaincy Conflict on Development in Winneba-Ghana Author: Sydney Kwame Abstract: ... Understanding the social context of the conflict is essential for developing efficient responses. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of chieftaincy conflicts on development and to map a road towards a peaceful resolution of conflict using the human need theory. The non-probability sampling technique was used to decide on respondents for the study. A total of 400 respondents were interviewed and made to fill a 20-item structured questionnaire. The findings show that the Municipality is enjoying negative peace in spite of the Appeal court ruling on the chieftaincy dispute and this is affecting the development of the town. To resolve this conflict there will be the need for government, political parties, the Municipal Assembly and all stakeholders to show a high sense of morality and refrain from exploiting ethnic sentiments for electoral favours. Again a lot of public education on peace targeting the youth of the area must be started immediately. Peace clubs must be started at the basic schools level to defuse possible breaches of the peace. Title: Choice of Reading Strategies of Iranian EFL Learners and its Connection to Emotional Intelligence Author: Sagem Tahlar Abstract: ... The major aim of this study was to determine the relationship between Iranian EFL learners’ emotional intelligence and their choice of reading strategies. To this end, a total of 126 participants were chosen from female intermediate and advanced EFL learners of Kish Language Institute in Mashhad and MA students at Hakim Sabzevari University majoring in TEFL in Sabzevar, Iran. A series of instruments were used to obtain the related data including the Michigan Test of English Language Proficiency (MTELP, 1979), Bar-On Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (Bar-On EQ-i, 1997) and Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL, 1990). Both structured reading strategy and EI interviews were conducted to gain more insights on learners’ use of strategies, reading habits, and their emotional capabilities. It was found that there was a positive significant correlation between total EI and the frequency of strategies used by Iranian EFL learners. Total EI also correlated significantly with the English language proficiency of learners. Subsequent data analysis via regression revealed that total EI is the significant predictor of metacognitive and affective strategies. The results of the interviews were also used to support and complement the results obtained through the quantitative instruments. Title: Comparing Selected Poems of Sylvia Plath and Parveen Shaker based on their Feminist Perspective Author: Gabu Lafita & Tahida Malia Abstract: ... This paper examines some poems of American English poet Sylvia Plath and Pakistani Urdu poet Parveen Shaker: two great female poets of twentieth century in the context of feminism. It explores their social, cultural, and religious diversity and the stunning commonalities between them under the patriarchal forces in their specific context. This study discusses the biographies and compares them to explore the analogies and disparities. The eight poems by each poet from their major poetry collections: “Ariel” by Sylvia Plath and “Khushboo” by Parveen Shaker were selected for analysis. First, the each poem was analyzed individually and then the common and different themes, characteristics, and poetic style were deducted and compared.All the comparative and analytical strategies used in any comparative, analytical, and systematic studies are applied here. The study explores the elements of interests in the form of analogy between the biographies of two poets and the selected poems in Urdu from Parveen Shaker’s ‘Khushboo’ have been translated into English by the researcher of this study. This research is specifically important for literary institutes as it provides a lot of knowledge to the students of literature and literary criticism and is beneficial for those who are analysts and have keen interest in Parveen Shaker and Sylvia Plath’s life and poetry and tend to explore them in future.
