The importance of the professional self-esteem is undeniable and the professionals of almost all fields ought to nurture the sense of professional self-esteem in order to develop their professionalism. It definitely enables them to realize their potentials, appraise their personal worth and mould themselves consequently so that they may suitably bring their faculties in to practice and serve in their best. The teachers are considered to be the most ardent agents of a society due to their constructive role. It is, therefore, essential for the teachers to continuously analyze their professional abilities in order to gain perfection in their teaching skills. This is how they become committed, devoted and professionals above all. In fact the very perception of the professional self-esteem instills professionalism amongst the professionals. This study preferably aims to delineate a comparison of the professional self-esteem of public and private secondary school teachers. Aricak (1999) Professional Self-Esteem Scale was used for this research study. Population of this perusal was all secondary school teachers of public and private schools of Rawalpindi city; hence, the sample was taken randomly. The response rate was 100% as the researchers collected data personally. Independent Sample t-test was applied and a significant difference in the level of professional self-esteem of public and private, male and female teachers is found. Title: Gender, Academic Rank, Employment Status, University Type and Job Stress among University Academic Staff: A Comparison between Malaysia and Indonesia Context Author: Toropran Tafaria & Ahmed Kin Uthman Abstract: ... The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between demographic variables with job stress among university academic staff. The demographic variables of this study are gender, academic rank, employment status, and university type. This study is a quantitative survey study that focused on comparation between Malaysia and Indonesia context. Data are collected from 343 universities academic staff from Pahang, Malaysia and 337 academic staff from Jogjakarta, Indonesia. The analysis of variance test (ANOVA) is used to test the study hypothesis in each nation. The results showed that gender, university type, and academic status was predictors of job stress in Pahang and Jogjakarta sample. Employment status had a significant effect on job stress just among Jogjakarta academic staffs, but not for Pahang academic staffs. This study is the first cross-cultural research that examines the effect of demographic variables on job stress among university academic staff in Pahang, Malaysia and Jogjakarta, Indonesia. Besides that, the study confirms existing theory and expands the applicability of work-related stressors in a cross national context. Over the last decade, the word “open” has also been used to describe educational resources (OERs) and courseware (OCW). The word “open,” as used here, refers at one level to the fact that the end user does not pay to access the resources. However, various challenges exist in using and producing open content, and the fact that resources are free does not mean that they are automatically embraced by end users. Models of creating and sustaining OERs/OCW carry their own set of issues. This paper examines some of those challenges as seen through Rogers’ Theory of Perceived Attributes. The theory covers important aspects of diffusion as one considers the potential adoption of the innovation, and may help give supporters of OER another means of securing its long-term sustainability. The purpose of this study was to find out the influence of moral values orientation on the academic achievement of senior secondary school students in Rivers State, Nigeria. The population of the study consisted of 42,624 SSII students. Self-concept was conceptualized as moral values orientation. The Ex-post factor research design was used. Stratified and systematic random sampling technique was deployed to obtain a sample of eight hundred (800) SSII students in twenty three (23) secondary schools. Data was collected using Students opinion questionnaire and academic performance of students in Mathematics and English language (SPME). A trial test of the instrument gave a reliability estimate between .63 to .94. Seven hypotheses were tested at .05 alpha levels using One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Fishers Least Significant Difference t-test where appropriate. The results obtained showed the moral values orientation. It is necessary to improve the moral skills of students to engender moral values orientation, eliminate moral bankruptcy, increase the moral consciousness of students in the school and motivate students to perform better and these should be the core counseling activity of the school counselors. Title: Disparities in Chemistry and Biology Achievement in Secondary Schools: Implications for Vision 2030 Author: Anangu P., Onodalo T. K. & Nusara, M. Abstract: ... The differential representation of men and women in the scientific community has been foretold by achievement patterns evident in the elementary and secondary levels. There is a substantial body of research that documents gender differences in science and it shows that males outperform females on science achievement tests. This study focuses on achievement in chemistry and biology because they are treated as compulsory subjects in most schools and thus taken by all the registered candidates while the third science, physics, remains optional in many schools. The two sciences are also regarded as instrumental in driving Kenya’s vision 2030 initiative which aims at making the country a newly industrializing middle income country providing high quality life for all its citizens. The realization of this vision calls for the harnessing of the science capacity of both men and women in the country for economic prosperity. This study adopted a descriptive survey design. This paper presents the findings of the study on disparities in achievement in chemistry and biology in Kenya with a focus in Western Province. This study was conducted in 40 secondary schools in Western Province. Out of the selected 40 schools, responses were obtained from 32 schools giving a response rate of 80%. The data collection instrument was the questionnaire. Data on achievement in chemistry and biology was obtained from the respective Heads of Departments. The study revealed that there are disparities in achievement among the different school categories and as well as gender. Boys’ schools realized higher mean scores in chemistry and biology during the five years compared to girls’ and co-educational schools. However, although the boys’ schools maintained the lead, performance in chemistry can only be described as average for both the boys’ and girls’ schools. Co-educational schools underperformed. When teachers use scaffolding as an instructional technique they model the desired learning strategies or tasks for the students throughout the lesson. Scaffolding can be applied in a variety of ways to a variety of lesson formats. This study examines the outcomes of a lesson on the teaching of three Civil War Letters to four sixth-grade special education classes in two school districts. The use of the three letters and the envelope artifacts requires that the teacher teach knowledge by asking the right questions. For some students, to discover or acquire new information seems to be a challenge. This lesson was designed to activate the discovery process through the use of a problem solving approach with the use of a series of vocabulary and comprehension directed reading thinking activities. This study focuses on the relationship between capacity building and effectiveness of teachers in primary public schools in the study area. A research design which was used in this study was co-relational and the investigation was directed by three null hypotheses. The study included 4,012 primary school teachers, of which 420 were randomly selected for the study. The research-designed and verified questionnaire served as the data gathering instrument. Data was analyzed under the consideration of Pearson product moment correlation coefficient. According to the result of this research, there seems to be a link between conferences participation and effective teaching in public primary schools in the study area; Seminar participation has a meaningful correlation with teachers efficiency in public primary schools in the study area; learning and development have a positive relationship with teachers effectiveness in public primary schools in the study area. On the basis of the reports results, recommendations are provided, including that school-based in-service education by competent relevant experts be supported by primary school principals.
