Title: Female Senators and the Empowerment of Women since The First Republic Author: Mfon Umoren Ekpootu Abstract: ... The aim of this paper is to examine the women-centric actions, laws and policies championed by female senators in Nigeria since the first republic (1963). It argues that female participation is a major indicator of the political, social and economic development of a society but this is seldom the case. Women are still under-represented in leadership roles across many countries in spite of apparently evolving political systems that claim to be more liberal and all-inclusive. The need for women’s empowerment cannot be overemphasized as it has a ripple effect on society in enhancing their ability to determine their choices and right to influence social change for themselves and society, and by so doing, their sense of self-worth is enhanced. However, Nigeria remains one of the countries performing poorly with respect to closing the gender gap despite numerous efforts made over the years, especially in relation to political empowerment. With the use of both oral and secondary sources, this paper identified five (5) female senators who made remarkable impacts towards women empowerment across their senatorial zones and their states by extension. Some of the women empowerment programmes they championed were; training and mentoring of female political aspirants, provisions for skill acquisition programmes along with start-up capitals, disbursement of cash, free health interventions, educational scholarships, donation of relief items in times of distress, and most importantly, the passing of bills into law that protects the rights of the girl-child against; gender discrimination and sexual violence against women. In the midst of persisting challenges hindering female participation in political affairs, this paper recommended adequate mentoring of aspiring women, providing financial assistance, when necessary, full implementation of affirmative action/quota system, and a change of attitude of media groups towards women as possible panacea to some the numerous challenges bedeviling Nigerian girl-child/women. This article analyzes the practical differences between the language of comics and the storyboard, in adapting a format to the other. The result of this adjustment will be applied in an animation. Graphics solutions used in each of these languages, the expression of their contents, were compared descriptively. Features such as the horizontal format, the vignette, audio, kinetic figures, visual metaphors and subtitles, when placed side by side, highlight the differences and similarities between the two methods. The methods that are used to test the hypothesis are explanatory methods. Using the empirical method (statistical) by means of statistical indicators as R2, R, ANOVA and regression equation simple, we have concluded that natural and social economic environment has impact on the sustainable development of rural tourism. Title: Tackling and Developing Children with Learning Disability Author: Hinushet Gimer (Ph.D) & Fungat Herret (Ph.D) Abstract: ... Learning disability is a general term that describes specific kinds of learning problems. Children with learning disability have deficits in selective attention and working memory. It is believed that difficulties in working memory will influence the ability to attend to a task. The present study was done to investigate and compare the performances of children with learning disability and typically developing children in tasks evaluating auditory aspects of selective attention, divided attention and working memory capacity. 19 children with age range 10 to 14 years participated in the study. Typically developing children group consisted of 10 participants. Learning disability group consisted of 9 children. Dichotic Listening test, auditory stroop task and Digit Backward Recall task were the tests used for assessment of selective attention, divided attention and working memory capacity. Repeated measures of ANOVA was performed to investigate the effects of group (learning disability group and typically developing children group) and ear (Directed Right, directed left and free listening) in dichotic listening task. The test result showed significant main effect of group and ear as well as children in both the groups performed best for directed right condition of directed left task followed by free listening and directed left condition. Independent ‘t’ test results revealed that there was a significant differences in stroop reaction time, digit backward recall and stroop score. Title: Overt Noun Phrase Constructions in Ikwerre Author: Sunday S. Mandah & Glory Worukwo, PhD Abstract: ... This study focuses on description the overt NP constructions in Ikwerre. The specific objectives were to: examine the anaphoric features of NPs in Ikwerre; determine the distribution of personal pronouns as overt NPs in Ikwerre and examine referential expressions in NP constructions in Ikwerre. In order to actualise the objectives of the study, the descriptive research design was adopted. The data for this study were gathered through primary and secondary sources. The primary source involved the use of self-designed phrase and sentence lists to collect language data from language consultants who are competent native speakers of Ikwerre. The Noun Phrase and Sentence lists consisted of fifty (50) items each making it a total of one hundred (100) items. The findings of the study amongst others revealed that the independent and the dependent forms of pronoun in NP structures may have a wide range of variation in their distribution but sometimes may occur interchangeably, especially at the object and possessive NPs and distinctively as subject NP. They also showed that the reciprocal NP ta interrupts the internal configuration of rV verb sequence and further established that reflexives and reciprocals belong to anaphoric subcategorization of nominals. The issue of priesthood of all believers has been a thorny one in Christendom. Drawn from 1 Peter 2: 9, there are varied understandings, interpretations and applications. Its proponents fall into those who advocate for all Christians priesthood and those for selected priesthood. This study examined the implication of this in the Rehoboth Baptist Association from biblical and theological perspectives. Using library materials, published and unpublished, it was discovered that the Rehoboth Baptist Association believes and practises priesthood of all believers, derived from the tearing apart of the curtain at the Holy of holies at the crucifixion of Jesus which granted unimpeded access to the presence of God. Thus, every believer who is endowed with spiritual gifts can exercise the priestly function on account of the person and works of Jesus Christ. It is recommended that for this to be meaningful, every Christian should adhere to the privileges and responsibilities of being a follower of Jesus Christ. Title: Major Influences on Friedrich Nietzsche’s Philosophy Author: ThankGod Bekweri Amadi & Peter Zabbeh Alawa, Ph.D. Abstract: ... Every philosophy, irrespective its originality, is a product of the historical, cultural, religious, political and philosophical background and heritage of its proponent(s). Hence, this paper explores some key philosophical influences on Friedrich Nietzsche such as those of Arthur Schopenhauer, Charles Darwin, and Richard Wagner. Others are Friedrich Ritschl, Otto Jahn, Fyodor Dostoevsky and Julius Bahnsen. It is our considered view that the philosophies of the above philosophers formed the building block for Nietzsche’s philosophy. This paper demonstrates that Nietzsche’s doctrine or metaphysics of the will was conceived from the Schopenhauerian philosophy of The World as Will and Representation. Julius Bahnsen’s analysis served as the gateway to Nietzsche’s appreciation and calibration of Schopenhauer’s dual aspect theory of the will. On Wagner’s footprint, it strongly argues that Nietzsche’s artistic call was informed by his friendship with Wagner. His ‘death of God’ owes partly to his Darwinian evolutionary consciousness and partly to his Wagnerian art-creationist inclination, not forgetting his Dionysian religio-cultural background and his reading and appreciation of Dostoevsky’s works. Ritschl and Jahn were teachers of Nietzsche who participated in his formative years. We found in Ritschl the hen that incubated Nietzsche’s style of writing and in Jahn the cock that developed Nietzsche’s critical attitude. However, Nietzsche’s originality is not in doubt, as he transformed all his experiences and existential engagements into an existential philosophy now christened in his name.
