Title: Meeting the Demand of the Tourist Consumer in Andalusia, Spain Author: Jevenota H. (Ph.D) Abstract: ... The Andalusian region in Spain, is famous for being a tourist area of great singularity with different degrees of development and models of touristic exploitation, strongly characterized by its offer of sun and beach. Today, this community does not limit itself to only offering sun and beach since not all the tourists that choose this as their destination have exclusive preference for this sector. Among all these new proposals there is one modality, rural tourism, that is the focal point of this study, especially the initiatives for rural tourism in Natural Parks. Rural tourism has become the solution for some problems that have emerged in rural areas: high rate of unemployment, rural exodus, primary sector dependence… So the practice of this activity will generate and diversify the income, plural-activity, it will create employment… For this reason it is necessary to offer a product that is adapted to the tourist consumer’s demand, so it is essential to know profile of the tourist. We will show the results which have been obtained in the analysis of two researches. The first of them has been done in Andalusia. We can find on it the consumer profile of rural tourism in this region. In the second one, obtained data of three natural parks in Córdoba have been analysed, showing the level of satisfaction that the tourists got after their stay in the area. Title: Predicament of Syria - The MENA Issue Author: Michael R. (Ph.D) Abstract: ... While other Arab regimes in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) have crumbled due to popular pressure without massive amounts of blood being spilled, the Syrian government continues to oppress and kill oppositional forces and its citizens at an increasingly alarming rate. Despite European and US pressure through United Nations mechanisms, there does not appear to be full international support for any post-Assad Syria, nor a response to outside intervention, such as that done by Russia and Iran. The current US administration is in large part distracted because of upcoming elections and the lagging economy. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a false diplomatic choice: a US led Invasion or a UN Sponsored Resolution. Perhaps the resolution of the Syrian dilemma is somewhere else. Title: Problems and Prospects in Exploiting Computer Technology as a tool for Learning Author: Muterd Geturu (Ph.D) Abstract: ... The global swing towards a knowledge based society has seen the role of ICTs in education becoming increasingly important. Zimbabwean education system is among the best in the continent and this achievement ought to be strengthened by the use of ICT in education. The study focused on ascertaining determinants of different levels of computer use at selected schools in Makoni East District in Zimbabwe and to find out whether teachers and heads appreciated the rationale behind establishment of computer studies in their schools. The study was qualitative in nature and relied on interviews and use of the questionnaire. Using the theoretical lenses of the Modernisation Theory, the study revealed that the use of computers for pedagogical purposes is very low. Basing on this, the research recommends a multi sectoral approach involving government, private sector, parastatals and other stake holders to ensure that the education sector benefits from the new technology. Title: Language and Social Interaction in Philippines Author: Rosy Binale & Pulani Shana Abstract: ... Informed by the proposed framework of Kumupulainen & Wray (1997) on analyzing children’s classroom discourse, this study aims to identify the various functions of language among children’s discourse and how these language functions are used to negotiate meaning in a social classroom interaction. Findings on the video recorded and transcribed children’s classroom discourse reveal that there are categorized and uncategorized language functions that come into play. Accordingly, categorized language functions (e.g. interrogative, responsive, organization, to name a few) show that children use informative language (most predominantly) in a social interaction while the uncategorized language functions (e.g. code-switching; polite expressions; expression of sarcasm; repetition/emphasis; self-correction, to name a few) co-occur with their own intentions that may contribute to the existing language functions in children’s discourse. In conclusion, results show that children’s classroom discourse when paid attention leads to learning experiences through the use of various language functions that determine children’s purpose in the negotiation of meaning in their talk. Education is the most reliable channel through which society ensures its survival and continuity. It is the window through which culture is developed, modified and transmitted. Education and culture are inseparable concepts. This paper therefore reappraised the effects of culture on educational development in Nigeria. Concepts of education and culture are succinctly discussed with emphasis on the dimensions of culture: cultural universals, cultural specialties and cultural alternatives. The paper reveals that, in Nigeria, culture affects the direction of education, financing of education and the distribution of educational opportunities. It was therefore suggested that curriculum experts should take cognizance of the dimensions of culture in curriculum planning.
