With the emergence of new types of computer application such as multimedia, computer aided designs and manufacturing, huge complex data analysis and forecast systems, high intensive data needs sciences in the areas of high energy physics in data storage, data mining, artificial intelligence, etc., with complex data types that are beyond the capabilities of existing conventional databases, it becomes apparent that a new or future database systems or technologies are required to address these needs in a fast changing world. In this paper, we provided an insight on emerging database systems and their contribution to the growing data industry and the drawbacks of the systems. We identified the problems of the existing conventional databases, reviewed extensively the researches carried out by other scholars related to our study, and finally clearly and deeply surveyed some emerging database management systems that have surfaced over the last few years. We adopted the qualitative research method for our review. From our findings, we observed that data redundancy and lack of progressive data integration after initial creation were some of the limitations of the conventional databases which limits it from being suitable for current technologies that require database integrations. Title: Isolation, Characterisation and Identification of Friedelan-3-One from Mangifera indica Root Author: Nna, Prince Joe & Marcus, Clement Abiye Abstract: ... Medicinal plants have remained a source of therapeutic agents in nature till date. There has been increasing concern in the use of some existing drugs due to their side effects, resistance and other shortcomings, hence the need for new drugs with better therapeutic properties. This study aimed at identifying and isolating potential medicinal agents from the roots of Mangifera indica as a way of contributing to the search for new drugs. The powdered root was extracted with ethyl acetate and methanol using a Soxhlet apparatus. The extracts were fractionated on silica gel column and eluted using increasing amounts of methanol in ethyl acetate. Fractions obtained were examined by TLC and based on their profiles the 50 fractions obtained were pooled to five combined fractions. The five fractions were analyzed by NMR (1D and 2D) to confirm the structures of their constituents. The result showed that MI-001 is fredelan-3-one. Show More |

Human face recognition systems have gained a considerable attention during last decade due to its vast applications in the field of computer and advantages over previous biometric methods. There are many applications with respect to security, sensitivity and secrecy. Face detection is the most important and first step of recognition system. Human face detection suffers from various challenges due to variation regarding image conditions, size, resolution, poses and rotation. Its accurate and robust detection has been a great task for the researchers. There exist various numbers of methods and techniques for face detection but none can guarantee successful in all conditions for all kinds of faces and images. Some methods are exhibiting good results in certain conditions and others are good with different kinds of images. Face detection based on skin color is found to be more effective technique because of the properties of skin color which is unique and can be easily separated from the other objects present in the image and background. This paper introduces a new approach to face detection systems using the skin color of a subject. This system can detect a face regardless of the background of the picture, which is an important phase for face identification. The images used in this system are color images which give additional information about the images than the gray images provide. In face detection, the two respective classes are the "face area" and the "non-face area". A Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a paradigm that focuses on building a system through the use of different reusable web services. This technique ensures the reusability of software components or services by other applications during software development thereby simplifying the whole process and reducing the development cost. This has made web service delivery efficient in many ways. However, there are still issues of incompatibility and lack of action procedure for effective service response. These led to a need for a better service-oriented model. In this work, we proposed an improved model for service oriented web architecture using swarm intelligence technique. Swarm intelligence technique is a technology that is modelled after biological way of harmonious community behaviour among some organisms like bees, ant, and fish. The Object-oriented Design Methodology (OODM) was used in this approach. The system was implemented using Hypertext Pre-processor (PHP) and JavaScript as the programming languages and MySQL as Database. Result from the system testing showed high performance accuracy in speed of service request response and execution of action procedure. Based on these parameters, our system recorded a performance accuracy score of 86%, while the existing system scored 66%. Title: Identifying and Grouping Anuran Amphibians using Wireless Multimedia Sensor Network (WMSN) Author: Robelto’ da Thiva & David Fruz Abstract: ... This paper evaluates the energy consumption between two approaches that use Wireless Multimedia Sensor Network (WMSN) for classification of amphibians species. The classification on the first approach is made in each of the node sensors, proposal advocated in this paper, while the second, classification is made in sink, traditional approach to literature. Recent studies show that in a WMSN, reducing energy consumption is a major challenge. Both approaches were applied in two experiments using the Castalia simulator. The data analysis showed a significant difference between the two approaches, identifying that the first approach overcomes the second in energy efficiency. Considering the scenario of 25 sensor nodes, one sink node and the 30-second transmission rate, the first approach was 13% more efficient in energy consumption compared to the second. The management of a network is a difficult task regardless of the equipment that is part of the network. However, it is more difficult to manage networks when using devices and equipment from different manufacturers. Due to the use of a several devices on a network, the procedure of detecting an anomaly issues is usually more challenging because the circuits in the network have different single consoles under which they function. In this research, we propose an automated diagnosis system for networks using Wireless Fidelity (WiFi). The system depends solely on collection of packet traces upon reporting of a problem, and focuses on identifying faults and mis-configurations. The system starts by collecting a TCP packet trace of a known stream of data between the client device and the Internet Service Provider (ISP) router. This model yielded a better through put and detects all types of network faults identified in this research. The result from the model testing gave a performance score of 85% which is higher than the other techniques it was compared to. Title: Categorization and Production of Zinc Oxide from Zinc Dust Author: Tanay Kumaj Abstract: ... Zinc dust, an EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) hazardous waste no. K061 can now be used as a potential raw material for the preparation of zinc zinc oxide. At first zinc was leached from zinc dust in acid medium. The contaminated iron was precipitated out from this solution by oxidation at pH 3.95-4.05. Then zinc was precipitated from this solution as hydroxide by raising the pH 6.8-7.2, which on leached with water and filtered followed by two-step drying to produce zinc oxide. The percent purity of the product was found to about 99 and iron contamination in the product was lowered to 50 ppm on Spectrophotometric analysis. It is found that average particle diameter for the prepared sample is 117 μm for drying at 140°C and 63.6 μm for drying at 180°C. The phase obtained of the prepared sample is zincite and the crystal system was confirmed to be hexagonal by XRD (X-ray diffraction) analysis. By unstructured information, we generally mean information that does not have a well-defined formal model and corresponding formal language for representation and reasoning, but rather is based on understanding of natural language. Nowadays, the use and utilization of natural fibers material continue to grow and highly demanded in the industrial world. There are various types of fiber plant thrive in Indonesia, such as kenaf (Hibiscus canabinus), blady grass (Imperata cylindrical), and Purun Tikus (Eleocharis dulcis). The existence of Purun Tikus still not used optimally. This study aims to determine the characteristics, the accurate composition of the mixed materials and the impact of Purun Tikus particle as materials for cement board. The results showed all Purun Tikus particle with a composition of 50 g + PPC 575 g, 75g + PPC 550 g and 100 g + PPC 525 g has met the requirements of SNI 03-2104-1991 on water content, density, thickness swelling, MoE. Not all the Purun Tikus particle meets the MoR in SNI 03-2104-1996 requirement. The lowest water level in the composition is at 50 g Purun Tikus particle without reinforcement while the highest at 100 g Purun Tikus particle with parallel reinforcement. The lowest density in the composition is at 75 g Purun Tikus particle with parallel reinforcement, while the highest at 75 g Purun Tikus particle without reinforcement. The lowest thickness swelling in the composition is at 100 g Purun Tikus particle without reinforcement, while the highest at 100 g Purun Tikus particle with parallel reinforcement. The lowest MoE in the composition of 100 g Purun Tikus particle without reinforcement, while the highest in 75 g Purun Tikus particle without reinforcement. The lowest MoR in the composition of 50 g Purun Tikus without reinforcement, while the highest in 75 g Purun Tikus particle with parallel reinforcement. International Oil Companies (IOCs) are constantly interested in expanding or diversifying their investment portfolios and as such searching for markets that are favourable for these purposes. A major determinant in the making of investment decisions in the oil and gas industry in any country or region is the Petroleum Fiscal System (PFS). It helps describe the relationship between the Host Government (HG) of the oil-producing region and the IOC involved in terms of profits sharing. For this purpose, finding the comparative analysis of each country’s fiscal system for performance becomes imperative as it directly involves the IOCs. In this study, a comparative performance analysis of fiscal systems is carried out for the four largest producers of Oil in Africa namely; Nigeria, Angola, Algeria, and Libya. An economic model is developed for these countries for a 25 years’ timeframe incorporating features of each fiscal system. A wide range of economic indicators were used for the purpose of comparison in this study such as Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Net Present Value (NPV), Discounted Net Cash Flow (DNCF), Profitability Index (PI), Contractor take (CTake), Government Take (GTake) and Payback Period (PP). A brief summary of the results gotten show that Algeria had the most NPV of the four countries with $8.3 billion and Nigeria had the lowest with $2.3 billion. Angola had highest Contractor take (CTake) to be 27.21%. Generally, all four countries had positive returns on investments with each having different rates. This gives HG, Petroleum analysts and most importantly IOCs a varied option of performance indicators for making policy decisions.
