Title: Effectiveness of Enterobacter Cloacae to Facilitate the Growth and Increase the Yield of Rice Author: Kangan Gutah Abstract: ... Rice productivity in Indonesia is relatively lower than the rice productivities in other rice growing countries. In order to increase the rice productivity, it is necessary to find agents that can improve and promote the rice growth. This study was done to determine potential use of Enterobacter cloacae isolated from rhizospheres of Imperata cylindrica to promote the growth and increase the yield of rice under greenhouse experiment. Five isolates of E.cloacae namely Al2N, Al3Bt, Al9Sa, Al6G, Al7Kla were tested for their effectiveness to promote the growth and increase the yield of rice. Treatments with isolates of E. cloacae significantly improved the growth of rice seedlings, in which the plant height, root length and number of root significantly (p<0.05) higher on treated plants when compared to control. These treatments were also significantly increased the number of tillers, content of chlorophyll in the leaf, content of macro nutrients in the leaf, the dry weight of shoot and the dry weight of root, but did not significantly (p>0.05) affect the plant height. Number of panicles per hill and percentage of filled grain per hill of treated plants were significantly higher than that of control, but the weight of 1000 grains did not significantly different. Rizhobacteria treatment increased the rice yield ranged from 22.53% to 26.13% when compared to control. No significant different were observed on all parameters among treatments with isolates of E. cloacae suggested that all isolates resulted in similar level of effect to the growth and yield of rice. These isolates may be further developed as plant growth promoting agents to increase the yield of rice in Indonesia. Keywords: Enterobacter cloacae, plant growth promoting rhizobacteria, rice yield. Title: Effect of the Biological Activity of Rosmarinus Officinalis-Essential Oils against Callosobruchus Maculatus, (Coleoptera, Bruchinae) Author: Ralla Talima Abstract: ... For the purpose of finding alternative ways to synthetic insecticides to fight against pests that ravage stored pulses, rosemary’s (Rosmarinus officinalis (L)) (Lamiaceae) essential oils have been tested against cowpea weevils (Callosobruchus maculatus (Fab)) (Coleoptera, Bruchinae) reared on chickpea (Cicer arietinum (L)) seeds. The chickpea seeds have been infested with ten newly-hatched pairs of cowpea weevils, then fumigated with increasing concentrations of 0, 4, 6, 8 or 10μl of rosemary’s essential oils per liter of air. These essential oils were analyzed by GC-MS. The compound groups were predominantly monoterpenes (93.06%), 74.93% of which were oxygenated and 18.13% hydrocarbonated. The main components in the oxygenated monoterpenes are eucalyptol (1,8-cineol) (50,42%), camphor (17.73%) and borneol (5.99%), while the 3-carene (12.05%) is the most represented compound in the hydrocarbonated monoterpenes. The remaining constituents represent only 6.94% of essential oils. Rosemary’s essential oils significantly affect longevity (Treated lot: 1 – 7 days, control lot: 2 – 12 days), fecundity (10 – 48 eggs/10 females vs. 437 – 491 eggs/10 females), and fertility (66.67 – 85.00% vs. 93.75 – 95.44%). The cowpea weevil’s success rates in the treated group were 0 – 60.42% compared to 86.35 – 92.33% in the control lot. The lethal concentrations at 50% (LC50) and 99% (CL99), for exposures between 24 and 120h , ranged from 5.51 – 2.43μl/l of air to 11.24 – 6.33μl/l of air, respectively, for males and from 6.80 – 3.04μl/l of air to 15.74 – 7.44μl/l of air for females. The demographic parameters are significantly affected. The average generation lifespan is prolonged ranging from 33.83 days for the control lots to 36.57 days for the treated lots, while the other parameters were all shortened. Rosemary’s essential oils may be used in an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) of stored legumes without any health or environmental risks. Title: Adopting of Electronic Payment Systems as a means to Identify and Encrypt Spoofing Defense Mechanism Author: Mark Tulaviu (Ph.D), Kate Kirivot (Ph.D) & Rita Wiuldo (Ph.D) Abstract: ... Spoofing attacks are a constant nag in the information world, so many methodologies have been invented to reduce on its effects but still there is a lot left to be desired. The kind of impact that this attacks have on Electronic Payment Systems is so detrimental to the economic world given that this systems are viewed as performance enhancers on payments. This study elaborates two methodologies a combination of StackPi and Encryption as spoofing defense methodologies. Billions of shillings are lost in this rollercoaster thus giving rise to a situation that deserves undivided attention and should be researched on. A profound argument on the methodologies that have been used in this mission to eradicate spoofing attacks, the limitations that they possess and other methodologies that have been brought in play to succeed them elicits an interesting he strategy of integrating or combining methodologies and the benefits that this strategy contributes to curbing spoofing attacks. With that knowledge underhand, it can be justified why the combination of Stack Pi and Encryption is a recommended solution against spoofing attacks.
