Number 1 Title: Prevalence of Biology-Related Superstitious Beliefs among Secondary School Students in Port-Harcourt Metropolis

Abstract: ... This study looks into superstitious beliefs about biology that were common among pupils at a particular secondary school in Obio/Akpor. The study was designed as a cross-sectional survey. The study was led by two hypotheses and two research questions. Three thousand and two hundred SS2 children from the chosen schools made up the studys population. 150 students made up the sample size, which was employed for the study and was chosen using a stratified random sampling procedure. The instrument used to collect the data was the "Biology-Related Superstitious Beliefs Questionnaire (BRSBQ)". The Pearson Product Moment Correlation yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.82. The produced data were subjected to regression analysis of variance (ANOVA) for testing hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance and mean and standard deviation for research inquiries. The study comes to the conclusion that, despite the fact that many of these superstitious ideas about biology are ludicrous and untrue, people continued to hold onto them because, likely, doing so satisfied their social and personal needs and was influenced by their culture and religion beliefs. According to the study, the government should therefore start school programs in collaboration with traditional leaders and religious leaders to raise awareness among the populace and lessen, if not completely eliminate, the transmission of these superstitious beliefs among their generations. Additionally, the government and other organizations should assist any association that works to eliminate discrimination and harmful cultural beliefs. Number 1 Title: Examining Awassi and Hamdani Lambs Growth, Carcass Features, and Tissue Distribution

Abstract: ... The present work was carried out at the Animal Farm, Collage of Agriculture, University of Salahaddin, where 10 weaned lambs (4-5 months old) from each of Hamdani and Awassi, and averaged 22.0± 0.25 and 23.1± 0.34kg in weight, respectively were divided equally and randomly allocated to two slaughter groups (30 and 40kg).Each group of lambs was kept in a separate pen and fed a concentrate diet at libitum containing 16.2% crude protein and 2637 k cal. Upon reaching the prescribed weight, each lamb was slaughtered and their carcass was evaluated. Results revealed that Hamdani lambs surpassed significantly Awassi lambs in growth rate (0.348 vs. 0.307 Kg/day), dressing percentage (47.97 vs. 46.59%) and percent of fat tail (15.20 vs. 12.15%). In contrast, it appears that Awassi lambs had thicker fat thickness, and their carcasses contain higher proportion of lean (+ 6.11%) and fat (+ 9.13%) and lower proportion of bone (-18.37%) as compared to Hamdani lambs. Also , as the weight at slaughter increased, there is a significant ( p< 0.05) decrease in average daily gain, an increase in rib eye area , fat thickness , lean and fat content and lower proportion of bone. Number 1 Title: The Impact of Using Better Oil Palm Production Techniques on Oil Palm Farmers Livelihood Assets in Kwaebibirem District of the Eastern Region of Ghana

Abstract: ... A number of improved oil palm production practices have been introduced to assist small-scale oil palm farmers increase yield and improve on their livelihoods. This study was conducted to examine the influence of adoption of improved oil palm production practices on the livelihood assets of oil palm farmers in Kwaebibirem District of the Eastern Region of Ghana. In all, 120 oil palm farmers were randomly selected and interviewed using structured questionnaires. Results revealed farmers’ characteristics such as level of education and farm size had significant influence (p0.05). Significant differences were observed among farmers who fully adopted improved oil palm technology than the non adopters in acquiring thevfollowing: more physical assets in the form of houses and household appliances; financial assets such as access to credit, increased income and savings; participation in group activities as a social asset and human capital in the form of ability to pay children’s school fees. It is recommended that extension services should cover more farmers who should be encouraged to adopt improved oil palm production farming practices and therefore improve on their livelihood assets. Abstract: ... The FAO Framework for Land Evaluation was used for the development of a land evaluation system for oil palm cultivation in Peninsular Malaysia. The combined limitation and parametric approach was used as it contributed to a more meaningful interpretation of the results. Twenty four soils were chosen to analyze the land evaluation system. The system of Sys et. al. (1991) was used for the evaluation using land characteristics. Number 1 Title: VHDL Execution and Implementation of 8-Bit ALU

Abstract: ... In this paper VHDL implementation of 8-bit arithmetic logic unit (ALU) is presented. The design was implemented using VHDL Xilinx Synthesis tool ISE 13.1 and targeted for Spartan device. ALU was designed to perform arithmetic operations such as addition and subtraction using 8-bit fast adder, logical operations such as AND, OR, XOR and NOT operations, 1’s and 2’s complement operations and compare. ALU consist of two input registers to hold the data during operation, one output register to hold the result of operation, 8-bit fast adder with 2’s complement circuit to perform subtraction and logic gates to perform logical operation. In this paper plant consisting of multiple boilers where multiple process variables of the boilers need to be acquired from the field is considered and analysed. The data of the process variables needs to be logged in a database for further analysis and supervisory control. A Lab VIEW based wireless data logging and supervisory control program simulates the process and the generated data are logged in to the database with proper indication about the status of the process variable. This gives the overview of modern day data acquisition system, data loggers and supervisory control techniques. Wireless data acquisition and data logging program is used to log the measurements of different process variable data in a database. Number 1 Title: Tannery Wastewater Decontamination and Removal Using Native or Exogenous Bacteria

Abstract: ... The present study aimed to investigate decontamination of tannery wastewater in terms of removal capacity and efficiency using indigenous and/or exogenous bacteria. Wastewater samples were collected from leather tanning factory. Three out of 17 indigenous tannery wastewater plus 3 exogenous bacterial isolates were identified and used in a batch mode remediation process as individual or mixed free living cultures. The tested tannery effluents had extremely high levels of all the tested parameters indicating high pollution potential, dangerous effects on the receiving environments and creating many treatment difficulties. Treatment of the tannery effluent was a function of time and bacterial species. Pseudomonas stutzeri (PS) considered the most while Bacillus sp. (RE12) considered the least efficient in removing all the tested parameters. Removal efficiencies (REs) were significantly and proportionally correlated with time regardless of bacterial species or parameters. However, bulk changes in all parameters were achieved within the first 24 h. The highest removals recorded were 86.7, 94.14%, 79.16, 95.64, 36.33, 93.66 and 44.91% for total suspended solids (TSS), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), fat, oil and grease (FOG), ammonia (NH3), chromium (Cr) and hydrogen sulphide (H2S), respectively after only 24 h. On the other hand, total dissolved solids (TDS) and nitrates (NO3) recorded the highest increase (97.68 and 45.87%) after one and 7 days, respectively. Despite the highly efficient removals achieved for the tested parameters, their residual levels were slightly higher than the maximum permissible limits (MPL) for the safe discharge. Therefore, it is highly recommended to use the most promising bacteria in a fixed form to bring the effluent to the safe limits for the environment. Number 1 Title: Use of the DNA Nucleotide Thymine in Molecular Devices: Negative Differential Resistance

Abstract: ... The soft-computing techniques provide us with tools that can be used to calculate the various parameters that cannot be measured easily. In this paper computational study of DNA base Thymine has been carried out using two probe set up. The metal-molecule-metal assembly was realized by inserting Thymine molecule between two gold terminals and analyzed for current-voltage characteristics. The current-voltage characteristics are obtained using Density Functional theory within Non-equilibrium Green’s function formalism (NEGF-DFT). Negative differential resistance is exhibited in the characteristics of Thymine. In two probe set-up without using gate, oscillating behavior of current through thymine is observed rendering its use to drive electronic circuits. It is also observed that the current-voltage characteristics of Thymine can be modulated by gating the two probe setup. Abstract: ... Farm market hammer mills machine analytical characteristics properties and speed control using repulsion start induction run machine is presented. Farm market is a physical retail market place intended to sell foods directly by farmers to consumers and farm markets may be indoors or outdoors. These markets are hosted in fields, school parking lots, public squares and other gathering spaces and offer people a chance to buy local, fresh, seasonal and delicious food directly from the producers. Hammer mill is designed for used in industries such as Aggregate industry to crush and grind gypsum, shells, limestone, clays while in Agriculture industry it is used to crush feed, grains, and agricultural limestone into digestible particles and in Energy industry is for reduction of fuel sources such as coal, wood, biomass, and biofuels. The repulsion induction machine is an ideal single-phase prime mover where very high inertia load extend the time during which the machine applies starting torque and draws starting current. It draws only 40% of the starting current as compares with other single phase capacitor start machine. Repulsion machines are widely used in the farm market, feed grinders, barn cleaners and silos unloaders. Adjustment of brushes, starting current measurement and torques was accomplished within 30seconds to all the cooling of machine and nuisance machine tripping. The farm market hammer mills (FMHM) repulsion start induction run machine brushes were connected to each other for the armature current to induce into it by FMHM repulsion start induction run machine stator magnetic field for smooth operation. The connecting terminal for the brushes and the armature is not necessary. The developed starting torque and current of FMHM repulsion start induction run machine was recorded as Current = 8.5/6.4Aac while the starting torque was 26.9/27 Ibf.in. The load on the FMHM repulsion start induction run machine was gradually adjustment by control knob of the electro-dynamometer. The FMHM repulsion start induction run machine started operational speed smoothly. There was a click of the centrifugal mechanism when the Commutator bar was short-circuited out. The apparent power = 622 VA, Real power =258 W, reactive power = 564 Var, Power factor = 0.415. When the load torque was at 9Ibf, the results are apparent power =718 VA, real power = 498W, reactive power = 516var, power factor = 0.712, power delivered = 0.231 h p, the electrical equivalent = 172.33W, Machine efficiency = 35%. Machine loss = 325.7W. The approximately full-load current of the FMHM repulsion start induction run machine was 6.9Aac. The starting current was approximately larger than the full load operating current by 41.7%. The direction of rotation of the farm market hammer mills repulsion start induction run machine was corrected by shifting the position of the Commutator brushes to the other side of their neutral position. The brushes were shifted from their neutral position to produce torque because, shifting the brushes moves the poles of the armature electromagnet to one side of similar stator poles. Then the like poles are at the position to repel each other that now produce toque for smooth starting operation of farm market hammer mills repulsion start induction run machine. This is recommended for Machine Designers, Engineers, farm market operator, Aggregate industry, Agriculture industry and Energy industry. Number 1 Title: Digital Teaching and Learning in Chemistry Education: A Case of Slack Platform and Flipped Classroom Strategies in Rivers State Universities

Abstract: ... This study examines digital teaching and learning in chemistry education: the use slack platform and flipped classroom teaching strategies on academic performance of science education undergraduates in Rivers State universities. The study was guided by three research question and three hypotheses. Quasi experimental design, specifically, the pretest-posttest control non randomized group design was adopted. 75 chemistry education undergraduates served as the sample. The instrument was a 25-item Performance Test validated by two Science Education Lecturers. The reliability coefficient of 0.91 for the instrument was determined by Alpha Cronbach formula. Research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation while hypotheses were tested using Analysis of Covariance at 0.05 level of significance. Findings of the study revealed no significant difference in performance of students subjected to slack platform and flipped classroom teachings. Students in both classroom environments performed better with very high scores in the performance test. However, there was a significant performance difference in undergraduate’s performance on the use of slack platform and lecture teaching method. The same was applicable to the use of flipped classroom. Undergraduates in both Slack platform and flipped classroom environments obtained higher test scores that their counterparts in lecture classroom environment. It was recommended among others that; lecturers should embrace the use of slack platform and flipped classroom in delivering lectures to ensure students’ understanding of concepts. Number 1 Title: Impact of Rosmarinus Officinalis Essential Oils Biological Activity on Callosobruchus Maculatus (Coleoptera, Bruchinae)

Abstract: ... For the purpose of finding alternative ways to synthetic insecticides to fight against pests that ravage stored pulses, rosemary’s (Rosmarinus officinalis (L)) (Lamiaceae) essential oils have been tested against cowpea weevils (Callosobruchus maculatus (Fab)) (Coleoptera, Bruchinae) reared on chickpea (Cicer arietinum (L)) seeds. The chickpea seeds have been infested with ten newly-hatched pairs of cowpea weevils, then fumigated with increasing concentrations of 0, 4, 6, 8 or 10μl of rosemary’s essential oils per liter of air. These essential oils were analyzed by GC-MS. The compound groups were predominantly monoterpenes (93.06%), 74.93% of which were oxygenated and 18.13% hydrocarbonated. The main components in the oxygenated monoterpenes are eucalyptol (1,8-cineol) (50,42%), camphor (17.73%) and borneol (5.99%), while the 3-carene (12.05%) is the most represented compound in the hydrocarbonated monoterpenes. The remaining constituents represent only 6.94% of essential oils. Rosemary’s essential oils significantly affect longevity (Treated lot: 1 – 7 days, control lot: 2 – 12 days), fecundity (10 – 48 eggs/10 females vs. 437 – 491 eggs/10 females), and fertility (66.67 – 85.00% vs. 93.75 – 95.44%). The cowpea weevil’s success rates in the treated group were 0 – 60.42% compared to 86.35 – 92.33% in the control lot. The lethal concentrations at 50% (LC50) and 99% (CL99), for exposures between 24 and 120h , ranged from 5.51 – 2.43μl/l of air to 11.24 – 6.33μl/l of air, respectively, for males and from 6.80 – 3.04μl/l of air to 15.74 – 7.44μl/l of air for females. The demographic parameters are significantly affected. The average generation lifespan is prolonged ranging from 33.83 days for the control lots to 36.57 days for the treated lots, while the other parameters were all shortened. Rosemary’s essential oils may be used in an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) of stored legumes without any health or environmental risks. Number 1 Title: Cloud Computing and Data Management in State-Owned Universities in Rivers State

Abstract: ... This study examines the influence of cloud computing on data management in state-owned universities in Rivers State, Nigeria. Specifically, it assessed the effect of private cloud on data quality management and the relationship between public cloud usage and data integration. Guided by the Technology Acceptance Model and other relevant theories, the study employed a correlational survey design using a sample of 123 ICT and data management staff selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The findings showed a significant positive relationship between private cloud and data quality management (r = 0.631, p < 0.05), and between public cloud and data integration (r = 0.547, p < 0.05). The study concludes that cloud computing technologies play a critical role in enhancing data accuracy, accessibility, and interdepartmental collaboration. It recommends increased investment in private cloud infrastructure, hybrid cloud strategies, digital literacy, and institutional ICT policies for sustainable data management in tertiary institutions.
