Title: Consumers Knowledge and Attitude toward the Visual Components of Social Campaign Advertising Author: Halit Riya (Ph.D) & Samar Urar (Ph.D) Abstract: ... This research paper tries to explore and describe consumer’s attitude and perception towards the visual elements in social advertising campaign. The literature review concentrates on key areas of consumer behaviour, the role of perception in communication and the role of different image contents and elements in social advertising. We have used semi structured questionnaire and two focus-groups to obtain and analyse the feedback and observations of people regarding visual advertisements. Following from these are the results and discussion that focus on four key areas: perception towards social advertising; attention and interest; congruence; and authorial intent and reader response. Results indicate that perception towards image of social advertisements differed quite significantly between the male and the female respondents. Congruence was found to be highly subjective, and although the respondents showed great approval of an advertisement As a result of contrasting shock element and sexual element in social advertisement. The researcher came to the conclusion that these elements are the most effective in capturing attention and interest. The study concludes with a discussion of the main implications of the research and with forwarding of suggestions for further research. Title: Smart Board Technology and Junior Secondary Students Performance in Textile Design Studies in Bayelsa State Author: Osuku, Augustina (Ph.D) & Nwombu, Ugochukwu Kingsley (Ph.D) Abstract: ... The study of Smart Board Technology and Junior Secondary Students’ Performance in Textile Design in Bayelsa State was aimed at investigating the relationship between students studying textile design in traditional classroom/workspace and students studying textile design with smart board technology. Some cognate literatures were reviewed in course of the study. The study adopted quasi-experimental research design (correlational research design). It outlined two objectives, research questions and hypotheses that guided the study. The hypotheses were tested using T-test at 0.05 level of significance. To establish the relationship between variables, the information was collected and turned to data which were analyzed with the use of Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) to test the relationship existing between Smart Board in the Teaching of Textile and Student Academic Performance in Secondary Schools in Bayelsa State. The responses from the questionnaire were tailed to objective question (OBJ). Findings obtained from the study revealed as follows. That there is no significant difference in the performance of students taught textile designs using smart board technology and those taught using traditional teaching methods (F1, 97=1.925, p-value=.168) among others. The study concluded that the use of smart board for textile instructions to students in junior secondary schools is effective and enhances students’ interest in participation than traditional teaching method. Thus, the study recommended that smart board should be provided and be used in all junior secondary schools in Central Senatorial District, Bayelsa State. Title: Improving the Well-Being of Women in Gianyar Regency by Utilizing Cooperative Improvement Mode Author: Mashira Yira (Ph.D) & Gyati Meshani Abstract: ... Women cooperative (Kopwan) which is a cooperative run and consisted of women, has demonstrated its ability to be competitive in providing good service to its members. Women are no longer just a housewife but cooperative has proved its superiority to empower women as a pioneer in helping small business in the region. The purpose of this research i.e.: (1) analyze the role of Kopwan on the welfare of its members; (2) analyze the Kopwan development strategy; and (3) analyze the potential growth of Kopwan in the future. The research was conducted by survey method. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed that Kopwan instrumental in improving the welfare of members and their families. The women members of Kopwan feel helpless and can contribute more than its position as a housewife. Grand strategy for the development of Kopwan in Gianyar Regency is growth and build strategy. Title: The Nature of The Colonial State and The Crisis of Underdevelopment in Post-Colonial Nigeria Author: Newman E. Ubani (PhD) & Benjamin B. Diri (PhD) Abstract: ... Colonialism as a sociopolitical cum socioeconomic phenomenon was structured on racism and its experiences differed from one continent of the world to another. It was a political superiority of the colonialists over the colonized for imperialistic and capitalistic motives and expansionism. This paper examines the nature of the colonial state and the crisis of underdevelopment in post-colonial Nigeria. Using the dependency theory and also as a descriptive research study with data generated from secondary sources based on content analysis method, it argues that the numerous crises, contradictions and trappings of the colonial state in Africa were transferred to the present-day Nigeria since political independence in 1960, due to the formal establishment of the British colonial rule and its effective occupation of the entity called Nigeria. This, of course, has been the bane of the country’s underdevelopment in all ramifications in contemporary times. Conclusively, the paper offers some realistic and pragmatic solutions geared towards the entrenchment of a new political order for a better peaceful and progressive multi-ethnic and pluralistic Nigerian state. Title: Traditional Communication and Mobilisation of Women for Permanent Voter Card Registration in South-South and South-East Nigeria Author: Innocent, Kasarachi Hayford (Ph.D) & Olowu, John Okwudiri Abstract: ... This study investigates the nexus between traditional communication and mobilisation of women for political participation, in this case, in registering for the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) in rural communities in Nigeria. Using four research questions as guide for the survey, the theoretical framework was built on the Uses and Gratification, Agenda Setting and Media System Dependency theories. Employing multi-stage sampling, 400 respondents drawn from a population of 531, 700 (407,400 from Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni, South-South zone) and (124,300 from Ugwunagbo, South-East zone), participated in the study and provided the data via a structured questionnaire. The findings of the study revealed that the rural women were highly exposed to and conversant with the different traditional communication forms employed in mobilising them for the PVC registration. Other findings indicated that traditional communication messages on the PVC registration were effective and influenced the women significantly towards participation in the exercise. The study concludes that despite the preponderance of modern communication media, traditional communication modes are still effective in mobilising rural women for political participation and engagement. Consequently, it is recommended that the government as well as community leaders should continue to use the traditional communication media as complements to modern mass media channels in mobilising women and rural dwellers generally for political participation, especially in the electoral process, in order to strengthen the democratic process and raise political consciousness in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Organisation. Title: Views on Pakistans Civil Bureaucracys Function Author: Alex Mercholo (Ph.D) Abstract: ... This paper explores some of the theoretical limitations of classical theory of bureaucracy. It also analyses Pakistani bureaucracy’s organisational composition and behaviour which reveals that the Pakistan’s civil administrative structure is incongruent with the principles indoctrinated in the classical theory of bureaucracy postulated by Max Webber. When the civil bureaucracy of a state trespasses into the domain of other institutions including the political ones, the very character of the civil administration becomes politicised and this phenomenon is evident in the case of Pakistan. Likewise, the civil administrative institutions are routinely pressurised for manipulating and twisting their rule-bound operating procedures in accordance with the vested interests of politicians. This makes the politicisation of administration inevitable and the concept of ‘legal rational authority’, a highly idealised principle. The organisational and institutional analysis of Pakistan’s civil bureaucracy illustrates that it is a poor materialisation of the classical model of bureaucracy mainly because this system of administration was inherited from the epoch of colonial rule and as such it was never a manifestation of the theory of bureaucracy in the first place. With the emergence of Latin American struggle for development in war torn states, since the 1940s African elite have borrowed the same development process in solving local needs. One enduring approach that has been adopted is participatory communication which has the inherent capacity to assess local needs in order for the people to appreciate development projects. In many ways, the development projects of the Rivers State administration from 2015 to 2022, the study avows, does not meet the development needs of the people of the state. The study, from content analysis of secondary data, draws its position from the capital projects on road construction intended to serve commuters. The study concludes, content wise, that, the intention of the capital project carried out by the then administration could be considered as economic waste due to its non-involvement of participatory communication process. In doing this it looked at the concept of cooperative learning, its theoretical perspectives, types, techniques, basic elements, advantages and disadvantages. It also looked at its use in the Nigerian school system, challenges and prospects. Some challenges to the use of cooperative learning in the Nigerian school system are control of government and school authorities, teachers’ pedagogical knowledge, time, large class size, parents’ pushback. In spite of these challenges cooperative learning will continue being used because of persistence of tribal/ethnic and religious conflicts, advances in technology, continuous high failure rates in national examinations, amongst others. Title: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner: An In-depth Analysis Author: Ramah Balith Abstract: ... In its essence, alchemy strives to arrive at a harmonious synthesis of the contending opposites. The maxim “Dissolve and coagulate” encompasses in its precision not only Jung’s extensive alchemical deliberations but also Coleridge’s theoretical formulations on “Imagination.” A conceptual belief in life’s struggle towards unification and coherence is seen in Jung and Coleridge both as the outcome of an intense struggle of conflicting and contending mental and psychological processes in the background. The chaos of contending tendencies, followed by an analysis in isolation of these opposing forces, and a final resolution into harmony is what alchemy proceeds with. This paper is an analysis of how these opposing and conflicting tendencies, psychologically and alchemically, are resulting in a wholeness through the symbolic cluster of “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”.
