Title: Mark Booth on the Occult Root of Science: A Call for the Harnessing of Africas Rich Spiritual Heritage Author: ThankGod Bekweri Amadi Abstract: ... In recent times, beginning from the birth of modern science, efforts have been made to divorce the spiritual elements of science from the empirical elements, hence the question and problem of demarcation in metaphysics and philosophy of science. Nowadays, when people use the word ‘science’ they most often use it to refer to the natural sciences, such that if the decoder is acquainted with the history of science beginning from the ancient period when science was conceived in a generic sense as ‘episteme’, or ‘scientia’ – that is, a systematized body of knowledge, the reader will be thrown into a state of aporia. This paper therefore attempts to reunite the spiritual components of science and the empirical components, and by extension resolve the confusion created by this bifurcation. It does so by doing an analysis of Mark Booth’s idea of the occult root of science, where Booth demonstrates the occult foundations of the natural sciences by showing that all the heroes of modern science – Copernicus, Bacon, Kepler, Galileo, Descartes, Newton etc., were immersed in esoteric or occultic thoughts and practices. The paper, short of agreeing with Booth, also calls for synergy between African scientists, philosophers and occultists or mystics to harness the full potentialities of Africa’s rich spiritual idols and God repositories to ensure a harvest of scientific products in Africa. Hence, the paper concludes that a proper harnessing of the spiritual powers of Africa’s Gods, Goddesses and traditional occultic societies such as the Ogboni society of Nigeria, the Poro society of Sierra Leone, among others, will definitely engender the development of an authentic African science. Solid waste management continues to dominate a major societal challenge especially in urban areas overwhelmed by the high rate of population growth and garbage generation. The indiscriminate dumping of solid wastes in the streets, gutters, open spaces and flood during rains leads to the spread of diseases and pollution of the environment. The inability of adult citizens to segregate, reduce, reuse and recycle their wastes has made solid waste management more challenging. It is in the light of this problems that this paper discussed the need of raise awareness on solid waste management through environmental adult education for sustainability. Environmental Adult Education is a lifelong process that adopts the principle of and methods of adult education to raise awareness on solid waste management and communicate relevant knowledge and skills to promote attitude and behaviours oriented towards sustainable environment. This paper therefore recommends that raising awareness through environmental adult education is a major pillar in addressing solid waste management and therefore both adults and authorizes must work together to effectively manage solid waste in their communities. Textile art is an aspect of art that humans cannot do without; the art of textile is through the process of fibre cultivation, to creation of fabrics, ornaments and accessories in order to make the world a better place to live. Dyes are produced from chemical substances or plant with the help of other aiding chemicals to ignite and preserve the colours. It is based on these issues the paper draws our attention to the evolution and history of textile dyes, classification of dyes, textile dyeing methods and techniques. Textile art is no doubt one of the factors that aid development in post-colonial Africa. Fashion and lifestyle have taking over the world today as looking good and keeping neat environment ensures the wellbeing and satisfaction of man. Data for this paper were obtained through secondary sources, such as the library and unpublished long essays. The findings reveal that textiles as a visual art practices have great inputs in the development of Africa and the world at large. In conclusion, textile plays very significant roles in the development of Nigeria and Africa through employment creation. Title: Influence of Commitment, Culture and Organizational Support on Islamic Banking based on People’s Perception Author: Garry Kelemnid (Ph.D) Abstract: ... The purpose of this research was to test and empirically analyze the effect of commitment, culture, and organizational support on Organizational Citizenship Behavior. The mediating role of job satisfaction. The design of this research using survey method with the collection of data in cross-section through the questionnaire. Simple random sampling is used on 200 employees, hypothesis testing using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). This study provides evidence that commitment, culture and organizational support is a positive and significant effect on the job satisfaction. The other causality shows that organizational commitment and organizational support is a positive and significant effect on the Organizational Citizenship Behavior. The organizational culture and job satisfaction is positive but not significant effect on Organizational Citizenship Behavior. Job satisfaction is not a mediating role in explaining the effect of commitment, culture and organizational support on Organizational Citizenship Behavior. The practical implications of this research provide increased knowledge and understanding of the employees and the management to make changes in Organizational Citizenship Behavior of the Islamic banking employees to the good direction through organizational commitment and organizational support. The limitations of this study on the sample size using only permanent employees and the Islamic Banks just so limit the ability to generalize the results of the research findings. Title: Assessment of the Implementation of Social Studies Curriculum in Junior Secondary Schools in Rivers State, Nigeria Author: Lawson K. Nwokah (Ph.D) & Patience O. Emesiobi (Ph.D) Abstract: ... This research investigates the implementation of the Social Studies curriculum in junior secondary schools in Rivers State. Two research questions and two corresponding hypotheses were formulated to guide the study, employing a descriptive research design with a survey approach. The target population comprised 4,350 Social Studies teachers in public junior secondary schools within Rivers State, from which a sample of 366 teachers was derived using Taro Yamanes formula. Stratified random sampling was employed to select teachers from 61 public secondary schools based on location (Urban and Rural), constituency, and local government area, with 12 teachers randomly chosen from each school. Data were collected using a 32-item rating scale named the Social Studies Assessment Rating Scale (SSARS). Before administration, the instruments reliability was tested using the split-half method on a sample of 12 randomly selected teachers, resulting in a correlation coefficient of +0.89, signifying high reliability. Data analysis involved mean, standard deviation, and Z-test at a 5% significance level. The findings indicate that the objectives of Social Studies are largely achieved, with the curriculum contents adequately covered in most schools in Rivers State. However, the study suggests a need for concerted efforts by the government to promote the utilization of innovative methods, such as field trips, in the teaching and learning of Social Studies in the state. This research contributes to understanding the current state of Social Studies curriculum implementation and offers insights for potential enhancements to the educational approach in Rivers State. In this article, we explored the effects of the activities of Boko Haram on Nigeria’s foreign policy and the implications for diplomatic relations with other countries of the world. The socioeconomic impact of terrorism, key challenges in the fight against terrorism, as well as the success of Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts between 2007 and 2023, were examined. The results show that Nigeria has suffered significant casualties from attacks, against residents across communities. What is clear, so far, is that Nigeria’s image has been significantly tarnished. This alone is crippling the tourism sector, disrupting trade, and leading to a decline in foreign investment. The destabilization of Nigerias global image is beyond measure. This study highlights the importance of addressing the root causes of violent extremism and the need for a more comprehensive counterterrorism strategy.
