Title: Examining Education and Economic Growth in Bangladesh Author: Hassan Jimui (Ph.D) Abstract: ... Education is a multidimensional process, one side it enhances the economic growth and another side, it reduces the poverty by increasing the productivity. This study examines the extent to which education affects economic growth in Bangladesh and show the impact of education on economic growth. In this study we utilize secondary time series data on GDP growth rate, adult literacy rate, gross enrolment in primary education, gross enrolment in secondary, gross enrolment in tertiary and government educational expenditure for the span of 2001-2015 in case of Bangladesh. The result of the t-test, Ftest, the coefficient of correlation and coefficient of determination shows that education is positively and significantly related to the economic growth. For identifying the model specification, this study uses multicollinearity test, Park test, Breusch-Godfrey (BG) test for heteroscedasticity, Durbin-Watson and Breusch-Pagan-Godfrey (BPG) test for autocorrelation. This test suggest that our data is free from Heteroscedasticity and autocorrelation but there is multicollinearity problem in this data, for removing this multicollinearity we use dropping variable method. Title: Ostentatious Governance and Nigerias Development Paradox: An Analysis of the National Assemblys Fiscal Impact, 2015–2023 Author: Barigbon, Christopher Barisi, Ph.D Abstract: ... This study examines ostentatious governance and Nigeria’s development paradox, focusing on the fiscal operations of the 8th and 9th National Assembly (2015–2023). It investigates how excessive expenditure and lavish legislative practices undermine socio-economic development. Guided by public interest theory, the study addresses the nature, drivers, and developmental consequences of high governance costs. Employing a qualitative correlational design, data were sourced from secondary records and analyzed through content review with simple quantitative illustrations. Findings reveal that governance in Nigeria is persistently anti-developmental, with recurrent expenditure disproportionately outweighing capital investment. Self-aggrandizement, corruption, budget padding, weak legislative capacity, and poor legislative performance were identified as key contributors to this paradox, limiting the legislature’s ability to drive meaningful development. The study recommends downsizing the legislature, adopting a part-time legislative model, reviewing the legislative reward system, strengthening capacity building and legislative training, and enhancing citizen political education to foster accountability and active followership. The research underscores that addressing ostentatious governance is critical to resolving Nigeria’s development paradox.
