Title: Analyzing Waseda Sports Personnel Recruitment Techniques Author: Girish Lushik (Ph.D) Abstract: ... In the present study, a cross-sectional self-administrated questionnaire survey was conducted among teachers to examine SPORTS PERSONEL RECRUITMENT STRATEGIES IN WASEDA. The differences in perceptions between teachers in junior high and high schools were also evaluated. The mainly reported expected qualifications of external coaches by teachers were as follows: “humanity” (e.g., appropriate “character,” “abidance by rules,” and “educational thinking”), “ability” (especially having coaching credentials and experience, and technical coaching skills and knowledge), “cooperativeness” (“communication skill” and “support of SBECSA teachers”), and “trust.” Recently, there has been growing concern about physical punishment in Japanese schools. Accordingly, MEXT (2013) has produced a guideline toward preventing such punishment. With this context, many participants in the present study may have been particularly conscious of the need to abide by rules. Flintoff et al. (2011) stressed the importance of coaching with educational thinking, especially in elementary schools. The results of the present study indicate that educational thinking is also a strong requirement for external coaches in junior high and high schools. Title: A Comparison of Female Athletes and Non-Athletes Mental Health in Indika Author: Yamegh Geron Abstract: ... The present study aimed to compare mental health of female athlete and non-athlete students in the city of Indica. The research methodology was a descriptive survey, which initially described the mental health and then compared it among the students. The statistical population of the study included all high school girls in the academic year of 2012-2013 in the city of Indica accounting for 919 subjects. The sampling was done in this study by two methods of census (enumeration) and multi-stage cluster random sampling. Due to the limited number of athletes (85 subjects), all were included in the study sample. Of the nonathletic population, 106 non-athlete subjects were selected using Cochran formula by multistage cluster random sampling method. The measurement tool in this study was the Goldberg and Hiller GHQ Standard Questionnaire (1979) consisting of two parts. The first part includes demographic information, including questions about demographic and individual characteristics of study samples such as age, type of illness, etc. The second part consisted of 28 questions to measure four subscales (somatic symptoms, anxiety, social functioning and depression). The reliability (reliability coefficient) of the questionnaire was obtained as 0.85 through Cronbachs alpha coefficient. For data analysis, the descriptive statistics was used in order to summarize the data, and the inferential statistics, including Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Mann-Whitney tests were used to test the hypotheses. The results showed significant differences between physical symptoms, anxiety and insomnia, social dysfunction and depression in two groups of female athlete and non- athlete students. It also indicated that the athlete students had a better status than the non-athletic students regarding mental health and its four subscales. It is therefore suggested to encourage students to participate in sports activities in order to enhance their mental health. Title: View of Teacher on the ECD Student Instruction to Thematic Integrated Approach to Wareng Sub-County Author: Gael Faturo J. (Ph.D) Abstract: ... The paper sought to establish teachers’ perception of thematic intergraded approach in teaching learners in ECD in in Wareng Sub County. The study adopted the use of quantitative and qualitative research methodology (mixed approach of research methodology). This study was carried out in Wareng Sub-County in Uasin Gishu County. The research therefore sampled 43 Head Teachers and 85 ECD teachers ECD teachers since the larger the sample the higher the reliability. Stratified sampling technique was used to select the types of respondents in schools whereby 30% of the target population was selected as the sample size. The data collection instruments employed were; questionnaire, interview schedule and observation checklist. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and measure of central tendency (modes standard deviation and means) qualitative data was analyzed in tabular form. the study revealed that the school provides learners with age-appropriate assignments and that the school provides learners with appropriate learning activities. In addition, the learners are provided with thematic activities that make the learner engage in authentic communication, the learners in these schools are provided with self-initiated learning activities that make them learn experimentally and the school provides learning materials like books and play materials to the learners. The study made the following recommendations; the head teachers need to ensure that the schools provide curriculum centered books that are appropriate for the learners’ respective levels and the school should provide learning that accommodates individual learners and abilities. Title: Psychosocial and Economic Predictors of Post-Partum Depression among Post-Partum Mothers in Port Harcourt Metropolis: Implication to Counselling Author: Love, Nwamadi Nwosu (Ph.D) & Hero, Nwaniwe Eze-Uzuke Abstract: ... This study investigates psychosocial and economic predictors of post-partum stress among post-partum mothers in Port Harcourt metropolis. Three research questions and three corresponding hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The research design for this study was correlational design. The estimated population for this study was 5,000 mothers in Rivers State. This estimation was because as at the time of this study there was no accurate figure in any government department housing the population of mothers in Port Harcourt Metropolis. The sample size of this study comprised 400 postpartum mothers in Port Harcourt Metropolis. Simple random sampling technique was adopted for the study. Two instruments titled: "Mothers Psychosocial and Economic Inventory" (MOPEI) and “Post-Partum Depression Assessment Scale” (PPDAS) was used for data collection. The instruments (MOPEI) and (PPDAS) were validated based on face and content validities by two measurement and evaluation experts. Cronbach alpha reliability statistics was used to generate the general reliability coefficient of (MOPEI) to be .76 and (PPDAS) to .81. Simple regression was used to answer research question 1-3 and their corresponding hypotheses was also tested at 0.05 Alpha level of significance. The findings of the study show that: self-concept, social support and financial stress significantly predicted post-partum stress among mothers in Rivers State. Electoral malpractice is almost becoming a norm or a common practice in Nigeria and Rivers State is not an exception. Its activities have really marred the success of election in the country and have caused a lot of crises in the country. As a way of remedying the situation and encouraging people to deviate from it, this study “Visual Presentations of Electoral Malpractice in Rivers State: A Mixed Media Exploration in Newspaper and Acrylic on Canvas” is aimed at visually documenting electoral malpractice issue on canvas using newspaper and acrylic as a mixed media technique and the need for exploring newspaper and acrylic as mixed media is to address the problem of over saturation in the use of oil paint and brush to produce the painting. To achieve the desire of the study, the aim and objectives are discussed in the paper. Also, cognate theory and literature were reviewed in course of the study; expression theory formed the theory for the study and studio experimental research design was adopted for the study. Qualitative data for the study were gathered for the study. In course of the study, the practical work produced was analysed and discussed. Findings reveal that most elections in Rivers State are characterised by electoral malpractice. Also, newspaper and acrylic as mixed media technique for producing painting is an effective medium. The study concludes that electoral malpractice is endemic in our present-day electoral practice and it is responsible for most violence perpetrated before, during and even after election in Rivers State. Thus, the study recommends that drastic steps should be taken to prevent issues of electoral malpractice in Rivers State. The study is believed to have significantly contributed to knowledge in discouraging electoral malpractice and the need to recycle waste newspapers to produce artwork. Title: Self-Awareness and Career Maturity among Undergraduates in State-owned Universities in Rivers State Author: Ngozi Allwell Egwurugwu Abstract: ... This study examines the relationship between self-awareness and career maturity among undergraduates in state-owned universities in Rivers State. The study adopted a correlational research design. The population of the study comprised undergraduate students in state-owned universities in Rivers State with an estimated population of 48,320 students. A sample size of 396 respondents was selected using Taro Yamane’s formula and a multistage sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire titled Self-Awareness and Career Maturity Questionnaire (SACMQ). The instrument was validated by experts and its reliability was established using Cronbach’s Alpha, yielding coefficients of 0.82 for self-awareness and 0.86 for career maturity. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to test the hypothesis at a 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that undergraduates in state-owned universities in Rivers State demonstrated a high level of self-awareness and career maturity. The study also revealed a significant positive relationship between self-awareness and career maturity among the respondents (r = 0.641, p < 0.05). The study concluded that self-awareness plays a significant role in enhancing the career maturity of undergraduate students. It was therefore recommended that universities should strengthen career counseling services and provide programs that encourage self-reflection and career planning among students.
