Author: Myeong Jong
Abstract: ... The purpose of the study is to investigate the influence of perceived organizational justice on empowerment, organizational commitment and turnover intention in the hospital nurses in Korea. Methods/Statistical Analysis: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by three hundred hospital nurses in general hospital after hearing the purpose of the study. The instruments of the questionnaire consisted of organizational justice, empowerment, organizational commitment, and turnover intention measured by a five point Likert scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 22.0 and AMOS 21.0 program. Technical statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, Cronbach’s alpha, and EFA were done. Findings: The path model was analyzed to evaluate the hypothesis and overall fit measures. The model’s overall fit measures were Χ2 = 122.765, d.f. = 23, p = .000, GFI = .914, AGFI = .832, RMR = .031, NFI = .872, IFI = .893, CFI = .892. Model evaluation measure of overall fit is desirable when GFI, CFI, NFI, and IFI are above .9, AGFI above .8, and RMR below .05. While NFI, IFI, and CFI values in this study were somewhat lower, because RMR, GFI, and AGFI values were high, it was deemed acceptable without a revised model. Organizational justice had a positive direct effect on empowerment (r = .446, p = .004) and organizational commitment (r = .608, p = .004) and a negative direct effect on turnover intention (r = -.357, p = .004). Empowerment had a notable direct effect on organizational commitment (r = .213, p = .007), but no notable direct effect onturnover intention (r = .097, p = .155). Organizational commitment had a negative effect on turnover intention (r = -.381, p = .004). Organizational justice had an indirect effect on organizational commitment and turnover intention. Empowerment, too, had an indirect effect on turnover intention. Organizational justice, followed by organizational commitment, had the most overall effect on turnover intention, and both were negative effects. The coefficient of determination (R2), which explains external and internal variables, was examined. The value of R2 for empowerment was .199 (19.9%), organizational commitment’s R2 was .530 (53%), and turnover intention’s R2 was .407 (40.7%). This study shows that, as the nurses’ perception of organizational justice becomes greater, empowerment and organizational commitment are heightened while turnover intention goes down. Improvements: Therefore, for effective hospital human resources management, nursing organizations and hospital organizations must change the design and system of the organization so that the nurses’ perception of organizational justice will become greater. Keywords: Empowerment, Nurses, Organizational Commitment, Organizational Justice, Turnover Intention. Show More

Number 2 Title: Environmental Rights and Equitable Resource Distribution Question in The Niger Delta of Nigeria: The Isaac Boro Legacy
Author: Stephen Temegha Olali (Ph.D)
Abstract: ... The struggle for environmental rights and equitable distribution of resources began in the ninteenth century when the kings of the Niger Delta challenged the British monopolistic economic policies in the Niger Delta or on the River Niger itself. Kings Jaja, Koko, Pepple, Ibanichuka and Prince Nana of Itsekiri amongst several others, agitated for economic equity in the trade in their respective domains. But it was in the twentieth century that an average non-royal personality, Isaac Boro, carried out his protest, taking up arms against the Administration of Eastern Nigeria and by extension, Nigeria. Although his protest which became known as the Twelve-Day of Creek Revolution, was put down after about twelve days and he and his companions sentenced to death. Although, Isaac Boro did not achieve the establishment of the Niger Delta Republic which he advocated, his agitation led in part to the creation of Rivers State and twenty-nine years later, Bayelsa State. This treatise is therefore about the legacies of Isaac Boro in his protestation about environmental and economic justice in the Niger Delta. Author: Nadab Henchard & Manah Jemen
Abstract: ... Despite the many individual case studies on various knowledge management initiatives in large organizations’, the perception of knowledge management practices and developments in Small and Medium enterprises suffers certain drawbacks. As such, there is paucity of information on the effects of different knowledge management strategies used by small firms in the hospitality industry in Kenya. The study sought to determine the contribution of knowledge management strategies on sales growth in the hospitality industry. Objective was to determine the contributions of knowledge management strategies on small and medium business sales growth. A cross-sectional survey research design was used for this study and a census was conducted on 39 businesses. A questionnaire with structured and unstructured questions was used to collect primary data from all the 39 top managers and supervisors of selected hospitality businesses since they are the key decision makers. Descriptive and regression analysis were used to analyze the data with the help of Statistical package for social sciences computer software. The findings from this study indicate that, though knowledge management strategies were used to a greater extent among the businesses, they did not significantly contribute to sales growth in the hospitality industry. This implies that the relationship was not significant because the use of the knowledge management strategies did not fully actualize the intended sales growth in the hospitality businesses. The results of this study have implications in enhancing the growth of Small and medium enterprises in Kenya. Key Words: Knowledge, Management, Strategies, Sales, Growth. Show More
Number 2 Title: Information Structure and Topic Strategy in the Clauses of Selected Pentecostal Christian Sermons
Author: Cynthia Moun Priye & Vincent Obobolo, Ph.D
Abstract: ... The information encoded in a clause is determined by the arrangement of the grammatical elements. The position of the clause elements, to a great extent, is contributory to the actual meaning contained in the clause. Clauses in their basic order may not have the capacity to capture the essence of a speaker’s message, hence, the employment of syntactic strategies comes to play. The paper, on this note, examined the clauses of selected Nigerian Pentecostal Christian preachers to establish the topic strategies employed in line with the information structure (IS) principles. Particularly, the paper was set to ascertain the role of the syntactic strategies that assist to highlight the topic element, using Construction Grammar (CxG) as the theoretic basis. The sample is forty (40) clauses from the sermons of Pst Kumuyi, Pst Adeboye, Pst Oyedepo, and Pst Chris. The syntactic strategies investigated are Preposing and Topicalisation. Aside passing information, preposing and topicalisation are clause constructions that are used for reasons of information structure to create prominence on the topic element. Among the four pastors whose sermons were investigated, three, Pst Adeboye, Pst Oyedepo, and Pst Chris made use of both preposing and topicalisation as topic strategies but Pst Kumuyi, who used other strategies entirely. Out of the forty clauses, nine with preposing, and fifteen with topicalisation constructions. Topicalisation is readily used as a topic forming strategy in Christian preaching. Keywords: IS, Christian Sermons, Clause, Elements of Clause, CxG, Syntactic Strategies. Show More
Number 2 Title: Language as a Factor in Participation and Exclusion
Author: Glory Ikechukwu Worukwo
Abstract: ... This paper starts by recognizing the existence of different criteria within a society which bring about both the exclusion and the participation of individuals within the society. The paper presents some of the parameters for classification as color; race, gender, religion, occupation, social class, ethnicity, caste, age, etc., all of which function to create a class of the excluded within the society. The various ways in which language creates a class of the excluded are discussed in turn. The paper concludes by suggesting that speakers of the languages that are accorded prestige in the society should take steps to empower the language of the excluded as this will make for the participation of more citizens in official domains, and therefore national development. Number 2 Title: Art Pedagogy in Post-Independence Nigeria and EL Anatsui’s Paradigm: Visual Arts and Ways of Knowing
Author: Graves, Nelson, P. (Ph.D)
Abstract: ... “Natural synthesis” labelled the black art world. This essay unpacks how the artist, EL Anatsui, in a “selective critiquing and re-evaluation of self” dared to “wriggle out” of that dilemma. Thusly, reactivating the dynamic terrain that lives and is vibrant from within the soul of artists, he forged a new path of creativity. With empirical analysis and the engagement of storytelling mechanisms, this article unreels that artistry. Anatsui, despite his academicization and art practice, threads a detour to cloth making craft traditions, chiefly the Kente weave and its autography for inspiration. Hence, the “vital and enabling” intellectual paradigm “resumptions, disappearances, and repetitions” makes possible an intersection with knowledge, while the “uniting representation” of the synthesis in the adoption of Memory and Interview grounds the contexts within w artwork is experienced. EL’s “non-fixed forms” make visible the temerity of new shapes and forms forged directly from the wellsprings and fecundity of African roots as exemplars of the art of the new dawn (Ben Shahn, 1998:53). Deconstruction of EL’s artworks reveals the groundings of his discourses on assemblages of “Forgotten Biography” and the engagement of “mythopoetic imagination” (Marina Paolo Banchetti-Robino, 2011) in the recalibration of personal expression in language and imageries that inflect spiritual ties to ancestry and memory. This is sufficient basis for the historical narration of Ways of Knowing in the Visual arts. Keywords: Visual Arts, Knowledge; “Mythopoetic Imagination”, Forms and Shapes; Iconography. Show More
